I removed my air pump because it burned up. But now my computer is freaking out, which is causing the engine to run very rich and idle rough. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is there anything to stick in the wire plug to make the computer think that the pump is still there?

It won't run bad without the AIR system. In fact, you probably won't tell any difference whatsoever.- Josh
If you have any questions or need installation pics/help, e-mail me: Viper98885@aol.com
\'93 Camaro Hardtop
\'01 Lincoln LS8 Sport
\'00 Yamaha YZF-R6
Full Throttle Performance

will i need to just leave the air system sitting there plugged in, or will i be able to remove the whole deal? thanks, good link on the pump also.\'94 Firebird, 3.4 M5.
Arctic white w/ red anniversary stripe. You can leave it in or take it out. It doesn't make any difference. Whether you disconnect the electrical connector is your option too. I would suggest disconnecting the connector so that it won't run at all. It doesn't need to run when you get the headers on.- Josh
If you have any questions or need installation pics/help, e-mail me: Viper98885@aol.com
\'93 Camaro Hardtop
\'01 Lincoln LS8 Sport
\'00 Yamaha YZF-R6
Full Throttle Performance

Is there anything to stick in the wire plug to make the computer think that the pump is still there? The A.I.R. system does not recirculate exhaust back into the engine. It is a pump located on the front right frame rail that activates only during certain conditions (such as startup) and pushes fresh air into the passenger side exhaust manifold to mix with the exhaust so that when goes through the catalytic converter, it will come out cleaner.1994 3.4l M5 Camaro
Magnaflow Catback, 245/50ZR-16 BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW\'s
\"If you have the power to do it, then do it.\"

Just a Wild Guess, but since it pumps oxygen into the exhaust gasses to help the cat, if the system is removed, wouldn't the rich exhaust gasses clog up and destroy camaronat's cat, causing the O2 sensors to read off? Or, oops, if they were reading rich, then it'd lean out the engine, huh? I'll shuddap now.... lmao.Jordan
15.09@90.7
1995 Camaro 3.4 M5

Alright, after getting myself confused, and running off at the mouth, lol, I got muh edjewmacashun and learned more about it, at least for my L32. Here goes, as stated in the manual:
The Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system helps reduce Hydrocarbon (HC), Carbon Monoxide (CO), and Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) exhaust emissions. It also heats up the oxidation catalytic converter quickly on engine start-up so conversion of exhaust gasses can occur sooner. The ECM turns "ON" the AIR pump after start-up any time engine coolant temperature is above about 12*C (55*F). The AIR pump will operate about 3 minutes, or until the system enters "Closed Loop" operation. At the same time the ECM turns the AIR pump "OFF," it also de-energizes the integral stop valve solenoid so no air is directed to the exhaust ports.
The AIR system will be disabled under the following conditions:
- When the ECM recognizes a problem and sets a DTC
- When the fuel system is operating in "Closed Loop"
- The AIR pump has been "ON" for about three minutes
- RPM is greater than 3200 for greater than 5 seconds (I'm sure we all qualify under this one, heheh)
- MAP is greater than 86 kPa
- MAP is less than 11 kPa
- Engine coolant temperature is less than 12*C (55*F)
- Battery is less than 10 volts or greater than 16 volts
- Power Enrichment (PE) is detected
I guess that's why noone even notices when it's been disconnected, it's only operating for a max of 3 minutes, right when you start the car, before closed loop mode....1994 3.4l M5 Camaro
Magnaflow Catback, 245/50ZR-16 BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW\'s
\"If you have the power to do it, then do it.\"

1911Shooter Do you know where I could find some more information about this stuff? I can't find it anywhere.
I am trying to figure out why my computer is freakin out about the pump not being on there and making my car run *very* rich.
I think that if I can find out what the computer does to turn the pump on and off, I can stick a resistor or circuit in there and fool my computer into thinking the stupid pump is still there. If I can't figure this out, I might as well get another pump from somewhere to replace mine.UAH FSAE
Chief Engineer
http://chargermotorsports.com
http://members.cardomain.com/camaronat

Well, I have the advantage of a Dealership manual that I picked up offa ebay for around 4 bucks. Finding out why a vehicle is running rich could be a combination of a lot of different things. Let me poke around and see if I can get a better idea why you'd be running rich, maybe I can point you in the right direction. Oh yeah, 1911Shooter is me, I just remembered my old login, and am now using it again.Check out my stable of supercharged W-Bodies HERE
\'97 Pontiac GP GTP Coupe
\'98 Regal GS | L67 3800 Series II
