FTRA/Whisper Lid/K&N Filter Installed = NO GAINS ???
FTRA/Whisper Lid/K&N Filter Installed = NO GAINS ???
Just installed the parts in the subject and to be honest with you guys (and maybe it is just me) I couldn't really notice a gain at all. I've seen many people posting wonders about this set up after they installed them but I can't really tell the gains. Is it me? did I do something wrong (which I don't think I did)? Have these gains been blown out of proportion? What do you guys think?
Thanks for any advice,
I am sure they are helping. Did you check your gas mileage frequently before doing these mods? Check it after a tank or two now, I saw an increase in mileage from doing this, which alone made it worth it for me! Intake mods will also add to the "success" of your future modifications such as exhaust or a power adder.

I think some people have blown them out of proportions. You should see a difference in throttle response though, especially at cruising speeds. I would guestimate that these mods add 7-10RWHP altogether, and that's all peak horsepower. It's much too little to REALLY notice, but your car is definitely quicker now.

Man after I installed them it really woke my car up.
Hell, when I installed the lid and K&N for my first mod I noticed a big difference...had I had my FTRA on at the same time I would have rejoiced.
You will see most of the gains from these at higher speeds...from 40 and up you should notice a definate power increase.
And like before...gas mileage should improve as well.

Yep, what I was thinking. I have also heard that it may help to reset your computer to account for the added "air" and adjust for it accordingly-my 2 pennies

I put exhaust on first, and noticed a gain. Then I did the free ram air mod along with reset computer, noticed nice gain up top. Then I did the smoothed stock lid along with reset computer and again notice a really nice gain all around. I did the free intake mods and each one made a difference, but I had some exhaust done. Try reseting the comp also, just disconnect the battery and reconnect, that's all there is to it. You should have notice some nice gains, exspecially up top, like 40mph and up.

yea you should notice a gain in the top end power, i know i did notice a little one.. which when i get my headers and rest of exhaust installed next week or so my intake mods should really help on then. but also i dunno if FTRA system has this but i know on my SLP but did you use that foam piece to block off the little spot in front of the air box by where you clip the lid?

Yes, I did. In fact, I was actually wondering if that piece seal well enough that front of the airbox.
Put a fan blowing underneath the car and see if you feel air coming out from any spaces of the Airbox.
If you cut the piece too short it may be losing a lot of air.
Do you really even need the foam piece though? You can't go fast enough to get the "mild supercharging effect", so why seal up another potential source of air? I can't tell a difference with it plugged or unplugged so I leave it unplugged. But I don't know. More of a question then a statement.
The whisper was one of my first mods and I installed it with no exhaust. Only thing on my car back then was clears, SFC, and FRA. I paid very close attention to the car a week b4 the install and when I installed it, there really was not much difference, until I looked at the tach and noticed it being more free revving. Same with the FRA.
