  • Pacesetter install in progress

Its my second day working on my pacesetter install. It is a pita to remove the stock manifold. So far, I only removed 2 nuts and most of the heat shield and broke off one of the bolt that connects Y-pipe and passenger side manifold.
My car has been through 5 years of Michigan weather. So, most of the bolts are rusted really bad. One of the O2 sensor is rusted so bad that it looks like it was welded onto the pipe. So, I just sprayed like half can of Wd-40 onto the manifold today and called it a day.
Anyone have any advise for my pacesetter install?
Also, my gasket has been sitting in a bucket of water for like 3 days now. Its still good right?
Oh yea, and how do you remove the passenger side heat shield thats on the very top?
    Thanks.

this might sound stupid, but do you put the heat shields back in after you put in ceramic coated headers or can you leave them off?

          just a prewarning.....

DO NOT USE THE PAPER GASKETS PRIVED WITH THE HEADERS...

unless you plan on replacing them in a couple months...

get some felpros or something better.. i wish i did. now i gotta spend about 2-3 hours replacing my manifold gaskets.

ill be back in a little bit to dig up what i wrote on the installation of the headers.

you might want to have someone help you out.. it will cut time in half

I thought they only had to soak overnight.

Yeah but the install has been taking longer than I though it would. Curse them rusty bolts.

So, where can I get the Fel-Pro gaskets? Do I just ask for manifold gaskets at autozone or something? Or Do I have to order then on the internet? About how much would they cost?

with me.. i just went to my local chevy dealership and got them there..

i think they were about 15 bucks.

but they are just the factory oem replacement exhaust manifold gaskets. but they will do the job just fine

You can get FelPro at your local parts store. I know Advance Auto carries FelPro, and I would assume AutoZone and maybe O'Rieleys do too.

I woundlt use felpro the headers. I would use gm ones. My paper gaskets are still going strong, but those were put on perfeclty.

The paper gaskets worked great for me. I had problems when I replaced them with Fel-Pro after the head swap.

                              Alright. I have a problem.
Got all the nuts taken off on passenger side. But How would I take off the thread thing that is sticking out the block? Some of them came out with the nuts but some of them just stayed in the block. How do I take those out?
Oh yea, also, how do I take out the O2 sensors? I got the special socket thing and everything but it just doesnt break loose. What should I do?
