well i have a 96 3.8 Camaro with just a flowmaster 80series muffler on my exhaust and a SLP cai. i wanted to get a cut-out installed but i did a search and looked at all the reviews and opinions and decided agaisnt the cut-out. does anyone have audio of a 3.8 cut-out? or anyone with a 3.8 have any new opinions? sorry to bring this up again.

The thing is dude. You may not want it loud all the time. Which is why a cutout can be great. I got a 3inch american thunder system with a carsound cat and all that. I wanted loud at the time. But now it's not so great. Your spending so little money on a cutout, what $20? and maybee $30 for the install? and you can cap it up anytime you don't want it loud. I'd do it, just don't replace the cat with it or anything. I'd put it right before it goes over the axle.

A cutout is best placed pre cat so you are running open headers. If you have the carsound cat with the sensor boss in the back of it. Just connect the cutout to the y-pipe and attach the cat to the cutout. Run the exhaust from there as normal. It will get more flow and more HP that way. Personally I'd also O2 sim the sensor too. Doesnt sound Horrible. Just raspy at high rpms. I have is set up precat also (pre-where the cats supposed to be). Any ways, truth be told, you dont want a cutout for the sound. Use the cutout when you are racing. I gain .3-.4 when i open the cutout.
