  • Interesting facts about FRA...

So I have a stock shaved lid free raim air, 3” pvc smooth bellow, and a K&N that needs a cleaning bad(talking like 8 months)

    Car is stock relatively speaking.

Playing with hptuners, I started it up, car was roughly 3 hours cold. IAT read 96 degrees, before car was on, started it up, drove around got down to about 93ish cruising around 30 mph, then got to a bit of an open stretch and romped on it, and the IAT, worked its way from like 94-82, in a matter of like 1-2 seconds, maybe 1500 rpms.

I know its kinda captain obvious, but we all know lower IAT temps will mean more power.

Just a thought to consider. Another thing to get an idea of the air flow… when I run no filter and cruise with FRA, the car will surge, pretty bad down the road if I leave it in gear and have my foot off the gas. I assume its just excess air being moved in.

Just a post for the people wondering if its worth doing.

That really is interesting. What I would like to see is a comparison of the IATs to a non-FRA car. That would reveal quite a bit.

I have a 97 so no FRA for me, my Incoming air temp to start one time was 95, then I did a WOT run to 78-80mph and the IAT went to 93. but then shut it down at about 80. It was a short wot run but IAT did go down.

Is that the comparison you were looking for 98 3.8?

"if" I get really ambitious... I have a set of full stock lid, baffles, everything, slightly used paper filter(so I can go compeltely stock). I can do a comparison from full stock to my current setup

Might do it one day in a week or two.

Well not quite. Your intake setup is different from the 98-02. I was really looking for a comparison of FRA with stock.
          Edit: Clarification: Stock 98-02 temps
