  • BORLA $$

I have a 98 camaro now I made my mind up with a BORLA 3" exhaust. So far the lowest price I found was $679. Does anyone have a site with a lower price.

I have stock headers right now and a 5 year old flowmaster muffler :(
My question is Is BORLA GOING TO BE TOO LOUD.
PS ILL BE TAKING MY CAT OUT TOO.

I've seen used ones on ebay go cheaper. I bought mine a year ago from thunderracing.com for $600 including shipping. You could also check the for sale forums on these sites as well.

I have the Borla 3" exhaust on my 99 Camaro, and I will tell you that it's definitely loud. I cut off the cat and welded in a 3" straight pipe instead. Car sounds great at idle and low rpm's cruising, but when you get on it, you can tell that's it's only a 6. Actually, it sounds like it can't decide whether a 6 or an 8. Overall, it runs great, but you're losing back-pressure. I did a lot of searches before I bought this setup, and had mixed emotions from different people. Mine from personal experience: if you're going to have a way to SERIOUSLY push air into the engine (also if you have headers or are going to get them) then go with the 3". Otherwise try to get 2.75" pipes. You'll save on the back-pressure giving the car a little more power. $679 isn't too bad, though on the price. I paid $660 when I got mine, but the website ownership has changed (apparently) and now they're $729. Hope I helped some.

Not to highjack the original topic, but back-pressure has nothing to do with making power. To a certian point, the larger the exhaust diamater the less exhaust velocity you will have, which will reduce the scavenging effect on the gasses in the combustion chambers. (which helps torque more than anything else) To little an exhaust diamater will increase back-pressure which makes the gasses work harder to escape the combustion chambers. There is a lot of fluid-dynamics equations (that I dont know) that can be used to find optimal exhaust diamater for a given car and modifications but generally, 3" is plenty big enough for most of the mods that we are going to throw at it, while at the same time, exhaust velocity is high enough that you dont lose all of the low-end torque.

I'm trying to kill the back-pressure myth because I just argued it to death with a co-worker the other day... ;)

When dealing with turbo charged cars backpressure is directly related to power lol. If you don't keep enough backpressure you will get things like boost creep (boost lvls go beyond whats intended) because your exhaust flows too much air and the wastegate can't keep up. Just FYI.

I think I payed like $550 from summit last winter.

            I have experimented with plates.
The largest opening is definately loud, it sounds great at idel and low speed but once you get on it it sounds like a 4 cilinder :(

My favorite plate is smallest opening, Allows dual outlets to work, and has a nice sound, can be enjoyed at highway speed, still screems "I'm coming" and doesent sound too V6

I think mine had to burn in or something, it sounds so much better then it useto, when it was new, I was regretting ditching the factory one.

I have used the full block off plate, it sounds nice and deep all around, but it only spits out the left and that isnt cool.

I have stock cat and all.
Check out magna flow, their are many more on the market now.

Pay a shop to fabricate the pipes, buy a flowmaster muffler, install electronic or manual cutouts.

350 or less, piping is piping.... nuff said
