ok, i'm going to start modding my firebird, and since eveyone else starts with cai and catbacks, i guess i will too. my question is for 3.4 L owners with catbacks. i want to know what has worked and sounded best on the 3.4 L (size, brand, etc.). i was thinking of getting a magnaflow, but then i heard rumblers, edelbrocks, and loudmouths were really good too, and they cost like $100 less . i hear that i can also get catbacks meant for lt1's and ls1's, because the only difference is the brackets. is this true? whatever advice given is appreciated.
you really cant go wrong with any of the ones you listed. it depends really on what you want. loud or quiet. loud mouth is loud(obviously) from what i hear magnaflow has a nice low tone sound to it.
i personally had flowmaster on my 3.4 and loved it. it sounds nice and loud. but then again that is my preference and might not be yours.
current car- 95 Trans am- bolt ons, parked and collecting dust. why? because **** it
I had dynomax superturbo with a 3" manderal bend catback, witch sounded good if you want a low tone, but I changed my muffler to 80 series flowmaster, nice and beefy

i think i want to go with a low tone, but also something that is decently loud. was your lower tone due to the 3" catback, or do a 3" and 2.5" catback have generally the same tone (except differing by the manufacturer).
I have a dynomax superturbo muffler. It sounds good even on the stock piping. Get 3in. 2.5in is good, but while you are at it, get the bigger so you don't have to get bigger later if you decide to do more modification.
It could end up cheaper to just have a local place and have them do it custom, best way around here at least.
And you can get a cutout put in after the cat, if you run a cat, which most don't do here.
Also, on your intake, I'll make a suggestion. keep the intake up to the air box. Remove the airbox, and get a conical cotton gauze filter (k&n or otherwise) oil it, and put it onto the air intake where the airbox used to go.
I use a filter with a diameter that will let the rubber fit into my air intake, and it is hoseclamped on (with the hose clamp on the plastic of the air intake). You will want to get a small ring about the width of the rubber boot of the filter. Put the ring snuggly in the rubber boot, then slip the filter into the intake. This will make it so when you hose clamp it, the rubber book will not collapse, cause the filter to fall out. You can also just get a filter with a rubber boot that will fit over the air intake.
Either way, it will cost you around $25-35, which is much cheaper than the $150+ most companies want. It should also be about the same gains as the more expensive system, particularly on the 3.4L non baffled intake.

well look on jcwhitney for their exhaust it cost around 150 and it's not bad sounding at all. It's called super turbo exhaust but then shows up at your house as pacesetters. Intake if you plan on spending 25 on making your own just look on ebay for generic ones that relocate your filter lower. It will get you a better gain then just modifying the stock air box. Prolly around the same as the better brands. You'll see them on there for 25-40 dollars
95 3.4 camaro: 3in pacesetters exhaust,Chrome intake stage 2. hopefully more to come.

i haven't heard any sound clips of pacesetters, but that sounds like an awesome deal. i think i'm either going to get those, edelbrock's, or the rumbler system. as far as the intake goes, what's the difference between one from slp or k&n and one of the ones off ebay? the one from slp looks hot, but if they are basically the same, i'm not gonna pay $150 more just for it to look a little better.
Well, if you go with a bigger exhaust, you will definately want a bigger cat. Having an oversized cat will be less restrictive, and that will mean more performance. You dont HAVE to do it, but while you are at it, you might as well. Save you later.
