I think I have a clogged cat

Ok i was on the interstate my car suddenly started running like $hit. I'm getting bad idle, hesitation, can't rev above 3000 rpm usually. But if i can push it to a higher rpm, it will start to run better and not shake. The whole exhaust is shaking currently when i drive it.

Also, i'm getting smoke coming out of the pssenger side right where the cat is and through the top of the engine bay. It smells just like regular exhaust and is nearly colorless. It is not oil or coolant burning or doesn't look like like it.

Are these syptoms of a clogged cat and how can you rig it to get it to the shop...

Most likely. Any leaks or loose bolts, or what not?

I think the cat was replaced in 98 or 99. The exhaust coming from under the car seems to be coming from the cat.

yeah, my car did the same thing.
Keep driving like that and catalyst will start shooting out of your exhaust. And it will be fine for while and it will start getting clogged again.

That's exactly how my 87 was like when its cat got clogged.

My diagnosis is when you think the converter is bad, take the car for a ride and when it starts running like crap, pull over and look at the converter. If it's red or white in color because of the heat, replace it!

Thanks for the input guys, turned out to be a shorted ignition coil due to a coolant leak. Maybe i'll do the cat anyway, it is old, and i really want a performance exhaust for the maro.
