If so, how do you know when it's all the way open or shut? I hear there are some problems with the motor in these things. Is it worth the money?

Not worth the weight IMO.

they are too expensive IMO for what your getting and how long the motor lasts. i have heard alot of people complain but ofcourse there is always that other side were people loves there cause they never go out.

not all cutouts are created equal. Mcord powerplate is CRAP. I would recomend that you look into a DMH cutout. They have lasted a long long time on peoples cars and have the best motor out there.
Just remeber that placment is important. Unless this is on a boosted car. In which case it doesn't matter since you have extra exhaust port pressure to overcome the resistence.1996 Silver camaro Z28.
