Cutouts are pretty cool. I have an electric one myself on my TA. I love the sound. As for performance, a good catback can match it. I dynoed it with it open/closed with the tune (open first) and I only lost 2 hp and about 3 tq which could have even been from the car being hotter from back to back runs. But I have a Hooker cat back which is pretty high flowing.
I'd say get one cause it can't hurt, plus the sound is great .

Get an electronic one cus the manuals are a PITA. It sounds kickass and they say that it frees up some hp, dyno tests have been inconclusive. Whehn 12sec did it (I think it was him) he lost like 3-4 hp and gained some torque. Go figure get it theyr cheap.1998 Firebird 3.8, A4
Mods: Alum Ds, Yank TC 2800 stall, Rksport lid, FTRA, SLP air temp sensor, K&N, Flowmaster catback 2.5\" w/cutout, 3:42 gears w/LSD
Best E/T: 15.6 @ 86 mph (w/o gears / lsd or verter)
Best 60: 2.234
www.teamfoxfire.iwarp.com -- club site
To come?: l67 piston package hardened, turbo? spray? low 12\'s? well see

its impossibly to say how much you can gain from a cutout, it will vary from car to car. And yea the electric ones are cool as hell ;) had one on my bird before I got the SS.This revelation, is the death of ignorance...
www.quicktimeperformance.com
