  • is ram air worth it?

i have a 99 3.8L camaro with LT1 magnaflow cat back, hi-flow magnaflow cat, whisper air lid, and K&N air filter

i was going to buy the ssra kit, will it be worth? is there anything better to spend my 200 bucks on? and were is the cheapest place to buy it?

    thx for your help

You could save it for headers, a underdrive pulley or something too.

It sure cant hurt, but you would see more of a difference in headers.

Like the others have said, I'd save my money for something else. Just do the FRA mod and you'll be set.

So are you advocating buying a ram air kit, or doing the FRA mod?

I personally dont like the fra mod that much. I noticed no difference after doing it other than a dirtier air filter sooner. I think the air might be hotter as well since it passes right by the radiator but i have no way to prove it. As for ram air... It doesnt really exist. Its really just an exremely efficient cold air intake. The speed you would have to be going to get any positive pressure over engine vacuum will never be reached. that said the ssra does pick up colder air and is a pretty good intake. You would be better off buying my tubular manifolds though. I just want 50 for them and the Y-pipe + shipping. They are bassically shorty headers. do some research on them (deffinately make spark plug changes easier too).

i heard with tubular manifolds you have to remove the A/C lines on 99 camaros, because they hit when u put em in

get rid of your log manifolds if you can.

modify (cut out the bottome) of your air box for more air flow. it doesn't hurt and it seems to give a 'peppier' feel to the engine/throttle.

I like my ftraik. it is kinda pricey...but it completes my setup.

I think my ram air on my old 3.4 was very worth it. Looks good under the hood too.
