on 98's we have to use what is more or less a piece of drier ducting. It's just flexible intake hose, to be honest it sounds like you have a lid for a 99+ which has the throttle body straight and goes right to the middle of the lid where or 98's have an angle to them. Auctually our throttle bodies are straight the bend is in the intake manifold but the end result is a bend and yes you must use some type of flexible tubing, I noticed a few weeks ago that autozone is carrying some flexible intake tubing in their "ricer" section. They even have varous colors.

dryer ducting will work but that hose at autozone (in the rice section, mine was right next to the type s badge) is definetly better. It doesn't fit flush up against the TB though you have to make an adapter out of PVC.

i have a 98 now with the modified lid...baffles cut and what not...have dryer duct now...just have to check it for holes occasionally...anyhow..buddy of mine showed me a intake for a v8 chevy truck..has the same odd ball shape as our stock lid...he said to get one off of a v6 chevy truck because they're a little longer and should work...might wanna look into it...
