• muffler shop BS--the 3 inch Problem**

so ive been to 2 shops and wasted 2 days and gotten the same answer at both places:

We can cut the existing s pipe off of the cat and weld another one in place of it but the o2 sensor will be messed up and will throw a SES light..so im like ok whatever and go home...

Is this a freakin normal problem and ive heard of other places and other people on here who go to a 3 inch system and use the stock 02 sensor and the exhaust places make a new hole for the sensor..i already have the I pipe and just need the custom s pipe built to fit the 3 inch i pipe..

also i was told by bene that the muffler place can cut the reducer off the cat and the stock cat is actually 3 inch in and 3 inch out...

On the bright side i found a place that said they could do it for me and put the stock o2 sensor back in and "DO IT RIGHT" but they are kinda expensive...

all i can say is WTF!!!!

i though this was going to be an easy install...

Jeff I am telling you man spend 40 and get a O2 sim and be done with it. Then you will be ready when u go to a high flow cat or even headers. You will never have to worry about having a ses light to do with your O2 sensor. Buy a O2 sim and if you really want to go all out buy a 3 inch in and 3inch out high flow catco cat and o2 sim then no worries

Yeah man, those exhaust shops will tell you that crap if they don't wanna get into a job. They can't charge you a lot of money for it so they're not interested. When I first started modding my car, I found one guy in town that does a great job welding and I have stuck with him on all welding jobs. Now, the people at the exhaust shop know me and don't give me any hassle when I come in with new jobs. Just a suggestion...

Bene the only reason I said for him to get and o2 sim is cause the are haseling him about the s pipe after the cat saying that it will throw codes. So if he id going to run a 3 inch setup from the y-pipe back including the cat I would run an O2 sim

I did it myself, first I took out the 02 then i had a mandrel bent 3" made, then I found a nut the right size for the 02 sim, cut a hole in the s pipe and then welded the nut to the pipe. Screw in the o2 sensor and it's done, with full exhaust i never threw a code.

Yeah, that's what I have too! O2 simm w/ my 3" cat. But I don't think Jeff is willing to spend more moula for his exhaust set up.
