This is just an option that I am weighing. What do you guys think? I can get a magnaflow muffler and custom tail pipes (2.5") for $170 including installation. A friend of a friend will weld my stuff for like $20 though, so I dont know if I should just get the muffler and the pipes from this place and have him put it on. Then it would be even cheaper. I didnt really want magnaflow anyway but that seems like a good price. Otherwise I think i have it narrowed down to borla, expensive as hell though. Opinions?

It will sound better than stock...just the muffler that is. But, at 170 bucks you are halfway to a full cat back that includes cool tail pipes, muffler, clamps and hangers. Your friend may not have a mandrel machine so your tail pipes may turn out to be all crimped down in the bends. Aftermarket catbacks are mandrel bent...much better flow. The extra 150 bucks may very well pay for itself in better gas mileage.
If you get a V6 catback for your particular year vehicle everything will bolt right up....very easy. You will not have to change the cat converter or anything.
most shops will be able to install the kit for you for less than 100 bucks. It is very easy to do yourself if you have a place to work and a couple of jsck stands and basic tools.

I have a magna muffler with my stock pipes, sounds better then stock. But just installed my mid-tube pacesetters with a catco high flow cat and man it sounds 3x's better.
But I kinda wish I got the full cat-back though. Does anyone know if I can still make my magnaflow muffer into a catback system? If so please explain and let me know the estimated cost for that.
When I got the muffler the guy told me I wouldn't need to get a catback and that it was just a way for the companies to make money. it may be tough to get custom mandrel bent pipe work done to macth up from your y pipe-cat back to the muffler. It will probably be cheaper to go with a full v8 LTI 3" catback.

Sup grayman, a golden auto muffler shop said they have a mandrel bent pipe 3" for my car. The pipe that connects to my muffler to my cat. Its aluminum also, they are going to change my tailpipes to 3" also but will cost $30 each.
If I purchased my magnaflow catback exhaust it would of cost me $400+ not including instalation right. So by adding the mandrel bent pipes and tailpipes I've basically spent that much for my exhaust system. be sure when they say mandrel bent they mean bent while pressurized as to keep the id the same throughout the bend. I had to go through a symantics lesson with an a**hole i tried to have install mine. Said it was a real mandrel bender because i didnt want to lose flow, then when i got there with my car up he showed me his pipe bender. Not mandrel and when i asked why he said it was, he said the to pieces on the machine that actually bend it are called mandrels, so technically it was a mandrel bender. That among other things made me leave.
Whether that was complete bs, i dont know. Just be sure they have exactly what you want.

Thanks for the information, does a mandrel bends look different then ones thats not? Just want to make sure what I'm looking at is really mandrel bend pipes.

it sounds like aluminized steel. it will still rust.
you can tell the difference between mandrel and non mandrel very easily. non mandrel has severe crimping/pinching in the bends (severe loss of ID)

Yeah, it will look like folds or wrinkles along the bend. It will also be crimped down (the 3" a bender was trying for me went in about 1/2" each side) and really restricts flow. Better of getting straight ss pipe from a muffler shop or auto store to make the 3" pipe difference. Or check jegs.

i think i got the 15694. The ls1 3" exhaust. Check out grayman's site, it will give you the part #'s you need. I ended up with the wrong one (50 bucks more) and then had to get the slp adaptor (the ls1 kit doesnt come with the s pipe). You want like a 15620 part o something like that. It is the 93-97 lt1 exhaust kit. Mine did come with nice ss hangers and whatnot.
Check his site before doing anything else though, i didnt til it was too late. Now the part #15620 that you are talking about says it is for 93-97. I assume that the differences are the hangers and o2 sensor which grayman talks about on his site. So thats no big deal. But what really confuses me is that he said he got a converter with his order and that the whole thing is 3", in contrast to the part I was going to get which is mostly 2.5" yet it is about $50 more like red was saying. My bad. i got mixed up with yours and scof's. He is doing 3". If you want 3" then get the lt1 v8 exhaust. If you want 2.5" v6 system, get the 15693.
These 2 both come with the s pipe to fit our v6's. The 15694 doesnot come with the s pipe so you will have to get the kit. The only reason i got it was by mistake.
So if you want 3 = 15620
If you want 2.5 = 15693
