  • Another "Just installed my flowmaster" thread

Well i just finished installing it today, and i love it. Rasp? nope. It has a quiet but deep rumble at idle, and you really know its there when you start moving. Sounds beautiful, surprised so many people complain about it.

Was it a 3'' American thunder?

Nope, its the 2.5" american thunder w/ the resonator.

Also, i finally got to hear it from outside the car today while someone else was driving it. My dad drove up and down the street a few times so i could hear it, and you can definitally hear it coming. Sounds real nice and deep at low rpm's and opens up nice when the rpm's start rising. It didnt sound raspy outside the car either.

And i definitally noticed a good gain in power. Its supposedly dyno proven for 11hp at the wheels, and i believe it.

Yeah, there are a number of people on the board that will bad mouth this system, but all in all, I've been quite happy with this purchase. I think it was the only mod in my sig that I have paid full retail price for, and I feel it was worth it.

I love my flowmaster. IMHO it's the best sounding system for the 3.8L Everywhere I go I have people (who know camaros) ask me if it's a V8. So... congrats on the system. Enjoy it. Especially when you pull up next to a rice burner and just rev ;)

Thanks for the response guys. Yea, its definitally a lot deeper and not ricey at all like the systems that people throw on their imports. Im soon gonna be getting a new hi-flo cat or hollowing mine out.

Would there be a good sound difference if i replaced the resonated I-pipe with just a straight thru 2.5" pipe?

Its that I pipe with resonator that is supposed to keep the rasp down.

itll sound much louder, but itll sound like a ricer at 3k+ rpms. My brother has the stock 2.25" piping and a flomaster 80 series muffler and I have the 2.5" flowmaster 80 series catback with the resonator. His sounds much louder but ricey, and mine doesnt sound as loud, but sounds excellent at 3k+ rpms. perfectly happy with mine.

i may give it a shot anyways, my friend has some 2.5" piping at his shop, so it's not like i'd be going out of my way to switch it. And if i dont like it, i'll just throw the resonated pipe back on.

My old flowmaster sounded and ran decent but after I saw my buddies near stock LS1 make 19 more RWHP opening a cutout before the muffler on his 3" flowmaster catback, it had to go. When i first installed my 2.5" flowmaster catback it was quicker, BUT it didnt run near as good as my 3" TSP Rumbler.

Anyone have any sound clips of the 2.5" resonated I pipe with 80 series american thunder exhaust? I've ran alot of searches and all I come up with is that ricey sound. If someone could post a link I would really appreciate it.

i dont have a clip of mine...nor do i really have anything to record it with...but it definitally is noticable deep sound, i still want to try running a non resonated i pipe, cause lol i ran my exhaust without the muffler for a day cause i didnt have time to put it on before work (oops) and it didnt sound one bit raspy, so i figure if it didnt rasp like that, it shouldnt rasp bad without the resonator.
