instead of totally removing that screen right before my intake, couldnt i just make big holes in it? or would this off set the way the egine will run/idle.

    is this screen important?

edit: because i hear a lot of V6rs doing it

the idea of removing the screen is to smooth out airflow. poking holes in it isnt really going to help anything

Read the discussion in the Technical Database, engine section before you do anything.

this will be moved when keith gets back online..removing the MAF is a stupid mod.it works for some people and for others it doesnt..dont tear it apart when you take it off and your car runs like crap you can put it back in

I did it, and regret it, no performance gain or loss what so ever. Only thing I notice is a rough idle, I would put it back in but I demolished the screen in the removal process.

                My oppinion..

The MAF screen IS a restriction. When you remove it, the car will idle a little rougher though.. Mine is completely out.

The readings without the screen will fluctuate more, but only slightly.. Not enough IMHO to really change your A/F ratio at WOT.

Also, moving this to General Tech.

O yea, do NOT just poke holes in it. Its very fragile.. pieces could come loose and be sucked into the motor.

i think it's worthwhile on the 99+ models. Why not 98? it's angled slightly, like the 95-97 models. the 99+ are completely straight going in, causing nearly laminar air flow (like the new Z06 models) if you have a whisper lid.
