• Catalytic converter RATTLES!

Whenever i take off under low rpms... it rattles. i can take my hand and bang on my catalytic converter and it rattles. Is it just the casing (easily afro engineered by a clamp?) or the whole thing is just bad? Any quick fixes or things i can try? its annoying!!

where exaclty is it rattling? inside the cat itself, or around the pipe?

It seems to be the casing. We have welded the pipes together in the back where they cross. When i take off in first the car is under load. We dont think that it is the heat shield. We dont know what exactly is making the noise?!?

I had my Catco installed and it rattled like hell and the exaust shop said that the cat was bad and it was brand new.. Later that day I put my car on a lift and found out it was the o2 senser rattling because it came loose... Check your o2 after the cat first to make sure it is tight..

what kind of exhaust setup do you have? if you have the Borla (or any 3-inch catback) it could be the I-pipe that goes from your cat to the muffler thats knocking up against the heat shield. and I've done everything i could to adjust it, weld it, bend it, or cushion it and it just keeps rattling. but it only does it at 1700 rpms. no more, no less. so i just learned to live with it.

It could also be the heat shield on the cat. Maybe?
