V8 Flowmaster muffler

I have a chance to buy a Flowmaster muffler which was taken from a 1997 Camaro Z28. Would this fit my 1996 Camaro 3.8L? Does it make a big difference having the muffler or the cat-back?

Yes. The main performance benefit comes from larger piping and not the muffler. While the stock muffler is restrictive, almost all the power gains from a catback will come from the larger pipe.
