I went with a 3" in and out catco cat. Your inlet is already 3". As far as the I pipe, I got a 2.75" pipe off a Z28. I didn't feel any loss in performance.

Check my sig...I think this is the way to go on the 3.4's. I heard so much back and forth about 2.5 and 3 inches for the I pipe so I compromised.

Are the 2.75 inch I pipes that come from the z28's mandrel bent?

be careful with the Z28 i pipes. I have one as well actually.
yeah, it's 2.75", but about 5" before it goes into the muffler it reduces to 2.5"

Yes they are. The stock TA/SS/Z28 I Pipes are all mandrel bent. Navyblue is right about it necking down into a 2.5" going into the muffler.

i love my 3", feel no loss in performance...

are you planning on running any kind of power-adder in the future? If so, go 3", if not then 2.5" or 2.75" should be fine.

I'm gonna get 1 3"in/out cat as well as the spl loudmouth 3" exhaust for z28's. just get it bigger now so you can handle more mods later.

well im not 100 percent sure about getting a power adder, maybe just port and polished heads and a more aggressive cam, something similar to the SSM package, but cheaper i dont want to lose low end power, but then again, i want to gain top end as well. i guess ill go with 2.75 inch pipes. later on, im getting the RKsport headers, and a highflow cat. do they make cats with 2.75inch in and out?

EDIT: does this sound like a good idea? will i notice better quarter mile times?

If your able to get enough air in to take advantage of it, open exhaust would be the fastest for the quarter. Freeing up your exhaust will help your top end which you use while racing but may sacrifise a little low end which you use for every day driving. I didn't even feel much of a loss with my 3" pipe untill I got rid of the cat and got a 3" S pipe.

I can buy the I pipe out of an 2001 SS. Does getting a 2.75" S-pipe and the SS's I pipe ending into my 2.5"inlet dual 2.5" Dynomax muffler(the SS's I-pipe reduces to 2.5" when approaching the muffler, right?) sound like a good idea?

That'll work. My Z28 I Pipe didn't come with the S bend for some odd reason.

I didn't need an s pipe with my 93-95 z28 pipe. It came with a "semi-s" that worked perfectly. It comes straight down from the cat about 4 or 5 inches curves to the left for about 3 inches, and then straight back. Muffler shop added a small piece of straight pipe after the cat so that it would be long enough.

How do your cars sound after the 3" modification? Does it sound a little deeper?

thanks
