Ok, I asked this a while back, but never got a straight answer.
On a 3.4 95 bird, whats the dimensions (length in/out) of the stock conv? I need a new one bacd, and cant order one w/o the exact sizes.. if anyone wants to specifiy partnumbers too that would help.. Has to be high flo thou.. catco or dynomax..
I Also have 1995 3.4. For this car Summit sells a CATCO converter #CTO-6006 which has 2 1/2" inlet & outlet slip fit fittings for about $61.00. Because this converter does not have the flange connector in the back, you will have to modify or remove the stock flange connector on the i pipe. I had quotes for about $60.00 to do this. Summit also sells Part #CTO-4517 which is a direct fit converter for about $122.00. Just unbolt the old one and bolt this one into place. You dont have to go to a muffler shop to have it installed. Both converters are CATCO and have a higher flow rate than stock.
PS. The Tech. at CATCO also said Part #CTO-2606 will work on the 3.4 v6. It has the same fittings as #CTO-6006 but has an even higher flow rate. Summit sells these for $81.00.

that doesnt make sense, cause thats 16 in long, and the direct fit is 20?

I am fortunate enough to have a lift here at work. I have had the car on it many times to change oil. I noticed a bracket that runs over the i pipe but it is behind the converter. I did not see any bracket that connected the converter to the transmision or body. Some chevy cars have them but I did not see one. So you sould be able to cut the old bolts off the rear flange connection and then tug, pull and beat the slip fitting off of the front. At least the factory used a band clamp on the front fitting. This kind of clamp usually does not crimp the fittings and makes it easier to come off.
As you can tell I have not installed mine yet. Since i could not locate the 2 1/2" ball type flange fitting anywhere I am going to order the direct fit converter.

The direct fit is 20 1/2" long, has the correct flange fitting on the rear and according to the tech fits with no modifications. Parts 6006 and 2606 are shorter and both will require added pipe or the i pipe will have to be modified.
PS...The 3.8 v6 may throw a ses light because it has an extra O2 sensor behind the converter which measures the O2 readings coming OUT of the converter. Since the 3.4 has the O2 sensors in front of the converter we should be OK. I checked this out before on this site. I also changed my O2 sensors and I know there are none behind the conveter.
