  • Pacesetter Update!!!

Well I did get selected to go to Pacesetter and be the test car for the 3.8 Headers. I got a full tour of the shop and met the guy who will be designing the headers.

I told him about the problems with rksport headers leaking and it being a huge turn off, so he assured me that these will not leak.

His plans for now are as follows: Headers for the cast manifold v6 fbodies. The tubular might follow. Not sure yet. They will be shorty headers pretty much, so they WILL bolt up to the STOCK Y-Pipe, so it will be easy to put them on. Although he might make a "Offroad Y-Pipe" like he has done for the LS1 (And its awesome).

Right now he is making the Jigs so he can mass produce the headers. I get my car back friday or monday. In a month or so, when the first set rolls of the production line, I will go back for a test fit. Pending the results, they will start producing/shipping.

This is finally happening. In about a month they will be made. These things are already backordered pretty bad. So order some if you REALLY want them soon. I will be getting an update frequently, so I will pass it on.

Websites list them for that, but now Pacesetterexhaust.com lists them for like $350 and $540 or so. Really turns me off, I'm not likely going to pay that much.

wow, really? that's retarted. i won't pay that much either. $350 brand new from the beginning would be somewhat reasonable, but you don't start a product at $200 and then up your price $150 after you've already stated a lower price...that's terrible business.

why would you want to use the stock y pipe? its a POS in the 1st place

seems to me you should have been more informed before talking to them about it. i dont see why you wouldnt make them for the 2000+ cars either.

as for an offroad y pipe, we dont really have that setup like the ls1 cars. ours has one cat, not two, so it would be the exact same design of y pipe and an offroad pipe attached to it. unless he made a y pipe like the ls1's, which would be way better.

Usually when you buy parts directly from the manufacturer, it's gonna cost alot more. Go with a dealer.

                  I have tubular manifolds

Its pretty pointless to put on a set of shorties

Tell him to look into midlength or longtubes. That would REALLY peak my interests.

We don't need another set of shorties for the same price as the others out there. Need to be cheaper & higher quality if they want to grab market share.

But like I said, I need a set of midlength or longtubes to justify the cost & install of headers myself.

longtubes would appeal to me as long as I could still use a cat so I can pass smog.

Update - Got off the phone with them today. After taking a closer look (and my encouragement) he is making them mid-length headers (Not shorties). And he will be making a new Y-Pipe also. Instead of 2 inch to 3 inch (Stock) it will be 2.5 inch to 3 inch.

They weren't making 98+ yet because the 95-97 cars are so backordered already.

Before he knew very much about v6 camaros, he wasn't sure if the same headers would work for both. If they were just headers, I don't think the same setup would work, but the headers and a y-pipe should work for any 95+ application, so they should be available for all 3.8 camaros.

I will have pictures of the prototypes come tuesday. I will post them ASAP.

Sounds like you should be more informed. The 98+ has a different setup and the manifolds are NOT enterchangable.

then why have i once had 96 model year headers on my 00? cause it's not that hard to make the slight change of sealing up o2 sensor holes with a tiny weld.

and how many members have done the 00+ tubular manifold swap that have 98 and lower year cars? just because you see one thread about how it does not work, doesn't mean that it speaks for it all.

oh well , glad you got them to be mids. that is a step closer towards longtubes.

                              Very nice to hear!
3 inch all the way back from the y pipe?
In my opinion 3 inch is a bit too big, 2.5 works well. It might hurt torque
                              Thank you Pace setter.
