• Cold Air intake without a kit? a little ghetto way to go about it.

I was told that on my camaro i could take the stock airbox (not lid) and cut out the bottom plastic part of that, and then cut out an inch wide gap on the plastic atop the radiator. then put it all back together and seal the front of the box. this in turn would crete a cold air/ram air effect. I went to the junkyard and got the peices i would be cutting (just in case it didnt work i could put the good peices back in). I did all the cutting and put it together. when the hood is open you can see nothign resembling what i did, but it got the same effects as my freinds did when he put in the SLP one. Both of us had K&N filters. ---any one want to comment on this??

That is the free ram air mod you hear about on here... You just invented it again.

Your filter will get a little dirtier.
Also you will be sucking some hot air off the radiator when you're sitting still. But good cool air when you're moving.

12sec, you said if im not mistaken that you were running a new setup with hoses going from the intake to the nostrils on your bird, Did you have any success w/ that set up? do you have any pics of the set up?

Is it possible to make a RamAir box functional on a 95 3.4L camaro if I have the hood?

Likewise, Is it safe for the engine to run with the box cut out like that on the back?

RedNinety5: yes you need the hood though, and then you can set up the hood to route air to an airbox, and that goes directly into your MAF

Another big advantage of the cold air kits is the fact that, on the 1993-1997 models, the tube between the filters and the elbow is a lot larger and is capable of delivering more air at a higher velocity due to the fact that it is not as pinched between the radiator and brake controller. Keep that in mind when looking for max performance.

I'm still perfecting it.
It looks like fuel economy has gone from 29 to 31 mpg on the highway. I still need to do more testing.
Also looks like even on a piss poor day at the track I pulled new best mph's indicating that it has been benificial.

Once it is all done I'll post pics.
