Exactly. Sorry I didn't explain myself.
Are you talking about the CHROME INTAKES guy? If you are, I have one. It is better than stock but since this is the only intake I have tried I cannot compare it to anything else. [/QB]
This isn't the greatest cai but it's a hell of a lot cheaper then K&N or SLP it can't be that much worse.
I don't know if this is the one that you were looking at originally but i hope this helps
For the love of god, that's not a real cold air intake! A real cai draws in fresh, cool air from the somewhere separated from the engine pay. The SLP version extends down into a compartment in front of the driver's side wheel-well and includes a block-off plate to separate it from the engine bay. The K&N version also extends down into this compartment and has a lip on it to help keep the heat out.
That cheap ebay intake won't even work on a 3.8L because it doesn't come with the stock elbow that the LT1 and 3.4L have. My bet is they ripped that "chrome" pipe out of a ricer intake kit at Autozone and/or are using those gauze filters that say on the box, "For show use only" because they provide very little filtration, if any. You could see very high intake air temps using these kinds of cheap knock-offs. People who have gone from custom intakes to SLP/K&N know there is quite a difference.
Please don't compare these cheap knock-offs that people sell to idiots to proven kits such as SLP and K&N.
The fact of the matter is, I want them to be compared because I want to see if they make any sort of difference whatsoever. I know they're not going to be as good as a SLP or K&N Kit, I just want to know if they're worth spending forty bucks on, because it would most likely be better than what I have now, which is stock. I know they're not "name brand" but there are times when theres not a tremendous amount of difference between name brand and custom, and that's what I'm trying to figure out. If you're going to think of me as an idiot for considering one of these, be my guest, but at least have something constructive to say when you post. And I don't really care if they don't work for a 3.8 or not, because I have a 3.4
I wasn't talking about the CHROME INTAKES guys nescessarily, but that pic looks an awful lot like the one I had looked at from someone else. So my original question remains, does anyone out htere have one, and are they that much better than stock?

You mean like this on my cheep a$$ intake? As for the "lip" to keep hot air out, you could cut one out of cardboard and stick it just above the filter. Not that mine gets warm past the blue connector. Why pay $250+ for another 1-2HP?
link (this link is messing up. the pic is # 59 not 60)

I have seen that guy sell ones for the 3.8, but I am not sure how they hook up.
The rubber part, was able to sqeeuze in between the ABS unit and radiator...
i also removed the black piece under the fender... figured a little breeze woudln't hurt, didn't help much but in long driving, seemed like the car was less heat soaked, it used to be real good at first then car heated up and perfromacne would slack off very slightly, I removed the fender piece and never had a problem...
even with the slight problem, I still woudl take it over a regular CAI...

I would not recomend that. The day I put mine on a front came through. I drove my car home that morning from school with no problem and took the peice off to put the CAI in but ran out of time to put it back on. So I want back to school without it and the wind blew me all over the road. I guess the wind was getting traped in that comaprtment.
