well, the Trans AM muffler is NOT going to work

I left it all up to my mechanic to do what he feels would be right and he said it would be best if I didnt go with installing it for a number of reasons, the heat shields on my V6 are also too close to get a 3" pipe to stay between with out rattling, he also said that since the stock pipe is only 2 1/4 and the TA pipe is 3" even with a reducer that is still 3/4" of room and that with the length of the pipe I run the risk of it eventulaly saging.
There were a number of other reasons why it isnt going to exactly work once I was under the car and holding it up.
Never the less, how am I going to get rid of this thing, it is siting on the side of my house, I am not very internet savy and I have no clue how E bay or never the less how my scanner works so what am I to do?

It will work, heres what I say you do. You get him to make your exhaust like 2.75 or 3.0 all the way back to the cat and eliminate the S bend right after the cat like I did then you will be fine and you will get a more free flowing exhaust then the 2.25 we have stock in our car. Hope that helped in some way.

Take it to another mechanic. I still can't believe how lazy people are to not do one freaking weld to connect them. He is just LAZY!!!

I agree!! Do the V8 car's even use different heat shields?? There is certainly room for a 3" pipe, considering many V8 guys go bigger than that. I don't know what is going to sag, if welded correctly it should function just as the stock piece. When I had my V8 catback welded on, my exhaust guy made a sleeve to fit around the stock 2-1/4"pipe and fit inside the 2-3/4" out of some spare pipe. It didn't completely eliminate the gap, but helped center the two pipes. Made it easier to weld also.

i hav ea full 3 inch exaust compleatly from the y pipes back, the catalytic is a 3 inch in and out magna flow, and a Hooker Cat back it was install with out any problems what so ever never rattles agins any thing andi havnt had a single problem with it ure mechanic dude is just lazy tell him a 3 inch exaust will work just fine i know another guy that has his exaust on his 97 and it fit just as well as mine did and mine is a 99

man its amazing how some people just give up...it will fit your mechanic is full of ****..go to a mom and pop muffler place and tell them you dont care about the heat shield or whatever mess he told you that you want it welded in..yeah a reducer will be needed but any competant muffler shop can do that....yeah it will sag if you dont put hangers on it....

find a new place to do it then go back to your dumb *** mechanic and say "hey look jack *** it did fit and doesnt rattle" well thats at least what i would do :D

I still have it here, I am just trying to figure out a way to make it all work.
I am going to see if I can get a reducer to put on it but I still need to get someone to put it on, I am trying to dream up a way to get this all put together, I think my mechanic was under the impression that I just wanted it clamped on, wouldnt you weld the joint where the reducer is?,
another idea I had was when they cut the stock pipe, having them put another one over it like a sleve so I dont have to have as much of a change at once.
Any other idea?
What is keeping me from giving up is knowing that most of you guys have systems like this with no problem, my mechanic is good, he fixed many things for me over the years, he just doesent deal with mods and upgrades like this every day.

Are you talking abotu the take-off trans am muffler that SLP sells? Um ... THAT's WHAT I HAVE.

I paid $40 for installation -- welding on the old hangar from my muffler to the new one (so that it would hang), and welding the muffler onto my stock piping, with a little expander.

Seriously, it will work. Looks really awesome too, killer tips on a Camaro.

reducers are very easy to make I had a 3" cutout put in on my 2 1/4" exhaust. That's two reducers. Took the shop about 20 minutes to do the whole deal.

guy was back there actually making them for about 5 minutes or less.

take it to a different mechanic, after some BS like that I wouldn't trust him to do a good job on it.
