After i installed my Kool Blue air filter i noticed my car started to have an eratic rough idle and also jurked at about 1500rpms when you let off the gas. I had a feeling on what it was but i was not sure untill today. I intalled a new screen from my dealer and low and behold my idle smoothed out and the jurking at 1500 went away. Plus i do not feel any diffence in the way it runs as far as proforamce wise.

In my 2002 M5, unlike my 2000 A4, I've noticed my fuel economy isnt as good as it was before I removed the MAF screen. Im going to put mine back in and see if my fuel economy returns.
I was getting 23mpg for a long time, and after removing the MAF screen it dropped to maybe 17-19 around town. Maybe in the 2002s it severely affects the fuel economy somehow :( Hope thats it, I don't like the fuel economy I've been getting. Then again my foot has been on the loud pedal a lot too :D 2002 5-spd NBM Camaro

well my maf screen is in and has never been out.. at least not as long as I have owned my car.. and I get a little bit of a jerk on deceleration sometimes... more like a hiccup than a jerk.. I have just decided to live with it..-Brad

I get that same thing- when I let off the gas it "hiccups" and takes the RPM a half a second to go to normal.

I'm leaving mine out.(I've had it out for several months now) I may lose gas mileage but, that goes with HP gain. :D If I'm not mistaking Dominic made a post that showed his dyno results before and after he removed the MAF screen. It was shown that he made a 5 HP and a 10 ftlbs of torque all the way across the HP and torque line. ;)

I think the gains that are being seen are are the newer, straight throttle bodies. Us older angled throttle body guys are going to experience practically no gains, and more than likely get a rough idle with it out. I would recommend you leave it in, as you have a '96. When mine was out, I noticed no gains, and a significantly rougher idle.1997 Y87 Camaro with a motor and some stuff.

I don't know about the gain part for the 97 and below, and also the 98's. I do know the 99 to 02 should be ok, I think the car that was dyno was a 2000. For the 97 and below, from all the post I have read on this, it seems that it gives a rougher idle like sped214 stated. I agree, since you have a 96 I would keep it in there.
