Hey guys, I'm looking to get a Flowmaster 80 series muffler put on my car. I was thinking about getting the catco hi-flow cat, but wasn't sure if it was worth the money. I also wanted to know which Flowmaster 80 series to get, the one for 3rd gen. camaros, or the one for 4th gen. Last but not least, what else do i need for this set up? Thankyou in advance. Teele

Hey Teele. A couple years back everyone on this board recommended me the catco high flow cat. It seemed like a good deal. When I got it put on I didn't like the way it sounded at all. Maybee the dynomax had something to do with it. I don't like the durability of the cat at all. The heat shield was tack welded on (not fully welded) so I know other member's have had rattling issues. As for me, I was driving down the street a week after I got it and as I turned the corner I couldn't avoid a rock in the street. The rock dented my catco just a little bit. It didn't look like it was really damaged that bad but all the honeycomb inside broke apart and clogged up my system. I have heard other people saying that they're honeycomb inside the cat came off after time too. I don't want to blame me hitting a rock on catco's quality. But I feel that this cat is very light weight and isn't that durable at all. The cat I went to was a CarSound 94009 cat. You can search some other topics on there to find out where you can get one but they are a little more money than the catco, maybee $20 or so. I would also recommend Random Technologies cats as the best leading cat around. And if you want a slighty better cat than the carsound 94009 you can also upgrade for a few more bucks to the 93000 series. Which flows I think about 10 more cfms than the 94009. The carsounds also flow about 70 more cfms than a catco does. I don't have data to back it up but over the years I have gathered information from very credible sources.

As for the 80 series muffler. I'm not sure what kind of car you have. And I don't think there is any difference in a 3rd gen or 4th gen Flowmaster 80 Series muffler. That is if you are just replacing the muffler it's self. Other parts you will need are (2) 90 degree bends, (2) tail pipes, and your choice of tips. let me recommend that you make sure that your pipes are stainless steel, otherwise they will rust out really bad over time, that includes your tips also. So make sure you don't go to pepboys to buy your stuff.

Hope I could help, if you have any questions email me at zennx@yahoo.com
