  • Sick of Flowmaster....

I have a the American Thunder Catback and am tired of its buzzing annoying tone. I even added a Race Bullet inline and it didnt help. My car sounds like a piece. Has anyone SWITCHED from a Flowmaster to any other exhaust and what where your feelings? I am tired of putting money into just to be upset. It DOESNT have to sound like a V8, just not like crap. They make my car seem slow, when I am accelerating and my car goes from silent to all bad sounding. I have heard DynoMax SuperTurbo is quiet. Anyone?
PS: I did a search and all I found where people sticking up for their exhaust. I really want people that have had Flowmaster and another muffler to give their oppinions on which is better. I was gonna do a highflow cat and headers, but then , I fear, my car will just be loud and ****ty sounding. Thanks.

You cannot change the sound of the engine, if you hate it that much I suggest you buy a v8. Not to sound harsh but the reality is that our engines only sound "good" cammed or with a turbo or sc. I personally like the sound but thats just me. I hear the borla is raspy you could try a magnaflow but I think they r trashy. I like my flowmaster 80 series.

If you want no buzzing sound or constant drone, get a take off z28 exhaust. If you want it a bit louder, get Dynomax Super Turbo. When I had my car, I did not want that constant drone all the time. I went from a Borla, to the Dynomax, then to the take off Z28 looking for the right sound. I learned my lesson. On my next Camaro I am getting next week, I am definately going with take off z28. Dynomax was awesome, just had a little drone, but the performace was way better then the z28.

The engine sounds fine. Stock it sounded fine. Would getting a new cam DEFINATLY make a big difference? I am tired of stuff not changing it at all. And I know exhaust is all opinion, that is why I asked for someone with the same opinion as me.

Key2Emptiness: I did think about getting a Z28 take-off but never could find one. Where do you buy yours from? Also, which Z had the flat rectangular tips (just curious)?

Did you have the flowmaster and carsound before? I just would like too know if you had the Flow and then got carsound, what did that do to the exhaust tone and what did the cam add to it? Did you like the exhaust tone before and what changed about it as you changed it (the system/cam)? Thanks

I got mine from shopping around at Z28 boards. They just get rid of em dirt cheap. Some one in my area just got a new exhaust and just gave it to me. I gave him a bit of cash just to be cool, but you could get lucky too. All of em come stock with the square tips. I ended up giving the tips to one of friends since I changed em out for polished stainless steel Z28 tips. Looked great. Sounds good too. Just real deep almost mustang sounding. Can't tell you have it on just crusing, but if you get on it, people will know ;)

Yea man, I have an AT catback with a carsound cat and I admit it does get annoying at times. I can tolerate it but i wouldn't mind going to something quieter now and then. Most of your chambered mufflers are going to sound very similar like the magnaflows, flowmasters, ravins etc... I've had a dynomax muffler before and it was't all that bad until I put in a catco cat. Then it sounded like a honda. I think the key would be to get a full exhaust with the dynomax, and it wouldn't be too loud and probably pretty tolerable. I haven't heard every exhaust system out there in real life so I couldn't recommend you a whole lot but I have heard most. Just the dynomax muffler it's self doesnt' sound too good though.

I first i had a 2.5'' flowmaster then went to a 3'' with the carsound then the cam. I love the way my exhaust sounds just doing one more thing to make it better, Im buying a z28

I have the adjustable borla cat-back. With the closed plate the car does not whine, does not rasp, or anything that anyone has ever said about flowmaster. It does not drone much if any at highway speeds and it sounds really good. Personally I am looking into getting the NON-adjustable LS1 borla cat-back because I'd like to have the exhaust coming out both sides.

My dynomax sounds good. Nice low rumble at idle, and no real rice sound when revving. It sounds really good at hiway speeds.

I second to dynomax. I had flows and it was nice and loud below 3500 rpms but beyond that its really nasty, like rice nasty. Dynomax isn't loud but it isn't ricey either. Its between flows and stock exhaust tone.

I bought a Z28 muffler and am gonna check how it sounds, but I need an i-pipe. The flowmaster pipe wont fit.
