• Magnus or anyone who knows MAFT...

I just recently picked up a MAFT. I havnt started playing with the settings on the car yet. I remember reading a while back that there might have been a problem with one of the versions for our car. I have version 4.0 and I was just wondering if anyone else was running this version MAFT on their 3.8. I'm not screwed with this version 4.0 am i?

Also, as for the Dip switches, what shuold the settings be for our cars. I assume its 1=on 2=off 3=? 4=not used

what should 3 be? limiter or no limiter?

......1..........2.............3...............4
On...6cyl|......GN.....|...Limiter..|Not used
Off..8cyl|.Late model|.No limiter.|Not used

1-on, the other three off.

I wrote to Ramchargers tech support a while back asking how much for an upgrade for mine, and they sent me a free upgrade chip, to version 6!

I thought that was pretty cool.

I saw some old information somewhere, that said version 4 had a tendency to develop a miss around 5000 rpms.... I don't know where it was. Something about electrical interference.

There was a mod, some piece to solder onto the circuit board.

So how a new chip fixes that, I don't know. Ramchargers says the 5k miss was not an issue.

That's the only thing I know of.

Oh yeah, the dial ranges are a little different. My first purchase was a new version 5 maft. For instance, the base setting on it will go all the way to 50% lean. My second purchase was a used version 4 maft+, because I wanted the timing capability. I noticed on it, the base setting on the lean side only goes to 35% lean, and the settings after that are marked as "not used"... That's probably in the chip, so if/when you upgrade, you probably need to print off a new dial settings sheet.

The dip switch settings remain the same between the versions.

i think i just found the info youre talking about.

http://www.vetteguru.com/mods/maf

that might be it?

i emailed sales@ramchargers and they still didnt email me back. I dunno if theyll replace the chip for me or not. maybe ill just do the homemade mod.

That's it!

I don't think it was a widespread problem though.

Seems like it took ramchargers a couple of days to get back with me.

well, they still didnt write back, but i put the thing on today. it seems to be working just fine. i have all settings set to "no change" at the zero setting, but above 5000 rpm it didnt go crazy like people were warning about. i dont know if you have to lean it out to experience the problem but it worked fine at the stock setting. i wont start tweaking it till i get some way to monitor the AF mixture. In the mean time i can wait for ramchargers to email me back.
