that's why you use a high temp primer ;)<a href=\"http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/512325\" target=\"_blank\">2004 Silver Impala</a> Faster than my Firebird<br /><br /><a href=\"http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=282862\" target=\"_blank\">3.4L Red 1995 Pontiac Firebird</a><b> For Sale</b>

Blitz is right, surface prep is everything.
Paints and primers don't adhere well to shiny polished surfaces - give it a light sandblasting or scuff them with a coarse scotchbrite pad (green to maroon) to give a grippy surface.
Clean real well - after rinsing off loose sanding dust with clean water (distilled is best), follow up with isopropyl alcohol to take any grease or oil residue. Give plenty of time (at least 15 minutes) to make sure all solvent flashes off before priming.
With good surface prep you might be able to go right to paint. If you want to prime, the key is not to overspray. Primer adheres very well to other surfaces, but isn't too strong itself. Thick coats of primer will flake off if stressed. Ideally, you want a coat you can just about see through. It's hard to do with a spray can, I do all my priming and painting with a DeVilbiss HVLP gun. I try to fog on a coat that ends up just under 1 mil (.001") thick when it dries.
Wait the recommded drying period (but before the primer becomes inactive) and then paint. Two light coats at right angles, with some flash time in between, are much better than one thick coat.
Everything I know, I learned from painting cruise missiles :D

Ok on the high temp thing. I sanded the tips with 60 grit to scuff them. Then primed it then i painted and then i clear coated. The stock flowmaster tips look good. But they already have a few chips from when it was installed and from driveing. Iam really looking for ones that are ready black or mybe ill have to find a powder coater.2001 Sunset orange Firebird!
