• Flowmaster 80 series or Dynomax Turbo?

Ive heard that flowmasters are ricey on V6s, but the 80 series isnt... and ive heard that the dynomax isnt ricey at all, but the flowmaster is louder... i just dont know, so, which one do you think is the better muffler? Sound clips? Thanks

I have the 80 series and I love it. With the GM v6's your going to get rasp at high rpm's especially if your just free reving while the car is stopped (not enough air flow to take up the volume of the muffler and exaust = rasp)

IMO: it does not in any way sound rice, I have heard rice v6's but the flowmaster 80 is a nice clear sound, distinctly discernable from that of the v8's. Youll be really happy if you get a cutout (trust me on this) run with it open if you want loud, the close the cap and run with the smooth semi-loud flows. I think youll like the 80 series.

ok guys, I HAD the Dynomax Super Turbo and I now HAVE the Flows 80 series. I'll probably be the best guy to hear advice from since I've had the pleasure of running both on my car.

Dynomax Super Turbo
+ great upgrade from stock
+ sounds wonderful throughout
- quiet...TOO QUIET
+ Idle is deep
- Idle is quiet (but much louder than stock)

Flowmaster 80 Series
+ Idle is crazy!
+ Amazing loudness
+ Lower than 2500RPMs, sounds way better than Dynomax
+ Sounds just like the dynomax the rest of the way up just a LOT LOUDER and...
- a little "hollow-er" than Dynomax

Everyone I've heard said Flowmaster is a "pain in the..." on the highway but to be honest with you, it's just as quiet on highway driving as the Dynomax which is a huge plus for me.

To me the low-down is this...

Get Flowmasters if you want the grunt, nasty (in a good way), loud mofo of a Camaro, get these

Get Dynomax if you want a clean, nice, and exotic sound to me. It's not very deep at all but it gives the 3.8 a nice mellow growl all the way throughout the RPM band.

I'd have more to say if it wasn't 1:45am...I'll chime back in on this post tomorrow...

BTW, this is with full intake with a 2.75" catback on both systems

Alright, I have a Flowmaster 80 series, adn it is quiet on the highway from 60-67mph maybe... but at 70mph it is loud and annoying. Are you telling me that the Dynomax is as loud?

lol well with these friggin miami drivers I usually can't get over 65

But yea I've hit 95 with the flows (just had them put on 3 days ago) and yea it's a little bit louder than Dynomax there.

The Dynomax on the highway you can not here AT ALL.

The Flows you can here a low drone-like sound. It doesn't bother me. If it bothers anyone, just throw the radio on (doesn't have to be loud) and all of a sudden...muffler is gone

If the upper speeds annoy you, then you must be very easily annoyed. I never had issues with my exhaust being too loud until I got my cutout (and trust me, it gives you a headache, it is TOO loud to have on all the time) but as for the 80 series I loved it, loud enough tobe noticed quiet enough to be consistently driven.

exactly. That's why I got the Dynomax the first time. Too many people scared me away because they're like...oohh it's SOOOO LOUD. Please, it's just right for me (the Flows).

Dynomax is still a great muffler tho, just a lot quieter.

Also I seemed to have gained some low-end torque with the Flows on again. I think maybe it's because I have more backpressure since people say the Dynomax is more free flowing than Flowmaster!

I had the flow, every one ignored me, I put the dyno on and that day I had people trying to race me off the light, I dont know what it was but even my wife likes the way the dyno sounds.

This is true. Secondly, I'm not talking about upper speeds. I am talking about 70mph. That is obviously where the resonant frequency is. After 70, it starts to get quiet again. Since I have to do a significant amount of highway driving at 70mph, it get's old after a while.

EDIT: And no, when I got it, I thought it was cool. I had no problem with it. But over the course of the past two years, teh novelty of a loud car has started to wear off.

2.5" pipes from the cat back make a world of difference. I love my flow 80. Sounds great and is only a little ity bitty ricy if I give it 3/4 throt. Anything under or over and it sounds just like a v8. People will not race me anymore when they here my car at a light. I have heard dynomax and it sounds rice to me. The drone sound is power to me. Its what a muscle car should sound like. The dynomax does not have that sound. its just a low hum like any honda with a good exhaust sounds like. My 2 cents

I wouldnt say that, but there will be a differance between the 3" and the 2.5" pipes. Personally I like 2.5" unless of course you have a SC or a turbo, in which case it would sound totally diff ne way lol. Just keep the stock 2.5" piping and open it up into a flowmaster 80 series. get a cutout so u can be loud when you want to and all is well.
