I have a cutout on my 2.5" flowmaster catback, I ran with it open at the track yesterday and could only muster low to mid 15.8's . My best ET was a 15.6 (got it last week) should I put the blame on some street tires with no tread and a track that was too hot to hook on? Or should I place the blame on my open cutout and plug her up next time I make it to the track?

I actually was at Sacramento raceway, its probably a bit further than Sonoma raceway, I would be willing though to set up some time and meet you out there. Im the only 3.8 firebird out here. The rest of the 3.8's are Camaros and run pretty weak numbers.
If you wanted directons to Sacto raceway though id be happy to oblige =)1998 Firebird 3.8, A4
Mods: Alum Ds, Yank TC 2800 stall, Rksport lid, FTRA, SLP air temp sensor, K&N, Flowmaster catback 2.5\" w/cutout, 3:42 gears w/LSD
Best E/T: 15.6 @ 86 mph (w/o gears / lsd or verter)
Best 60: 2.234
www.teamfoxfire.iwarp.com -- club site
To come?: l67 piston package hardened, turbo? spray? low 12\'s? well see

my cut-out makes my car noticably faster when i un-cap it, but i have a 2.5" un-mandrel bent exhaust, that may have something to do with it...Black 1998 Pontiac Firebird A-4 swap
271.4rwhp/259.4rwtq NA
13.30@102.44
www.freewebs.com/wickedsix98

Were you 60' the same? Also what was the diff in mph between the two? If not then that's why your 1/4 time was slower. You probably have to launch a little harder with the cutout open.
My car pulls better uncapped. But then again no one else has a set up like me either.Keith - 99 'maro - White M5 - bumpstick and boltons - 13.65 @ 101 N/A

I had a cut out and my car was a DOG. Slow as hell and it sounded like @SS. It sounded so bad I did not even want to drive it around the block again. I went back home are cut it off and sold it to a friends with a V8 mustang. I had it on my car for a whole 5 min then the POS came off. The cutout felt like I had the SGS button on or for you M5 guy, starting in second gear. BLAAAAA. I will never recommend a cut out for any one. L8White 98 Camaro with t-tops leather and Y87. I have a cutout.. It does take away a bit of torque, but it makes up for it up to. I ran a 15.5, with an open cutout, I was runnin 15.3's I lost a tenth on the 60', but got 2 tenths at the 1/4 and 2 mph. I love it.. I had it right efore the axle, sounded kinda gross... moved it right after the cat.. sounds awesome.. With it open you can give a bit more gas off the line.. Once I am at WOT and past about 2k I feel it hard. ITs a good help for only like 30 bucks.just keep at it, once you get consistant you will start to see a tenth or two ff your time... but you ahve to get a good launch. Enjoy!!

I was running 60 foots of 2.238 and so on b4 the cutout. Last track day (with cutout open) I was running 2.3-2.4 60's . Ill try that harder launch thing. Ill just bring a socket wrench and some fittings with me next wed. so that I can take it off and on.
On the street the car feels like it has a ****load of power with the cutout open, It seems to set the shift points nice and high and let me jam at will. For some reason though I wasnt pulling the kind of 60's I normally do. Maybe I have to launch harder with some new tires. I hate to have to cap it because I love the sound.

Would anyone recommend a cutout for a car with 3.08 gear? I don't get that great of a launch anyway, would it just make my car slow as sh**?
