• Cut-out?

Some guy at the track always disconnects his catalytic converter from the exhaust on his v6 camaro and his car always kicks some a**! I thought I might be able to achieve the same effect by just getting a cut-out w/ butterfly nuts so I could just remove it at the track. Will it be the same? If so were could I get a cut-out at a good price? Your help is appreciated.

I'd really like some info on where I could get a cut-out. Can I just go to my local Autozone and buy one or order one or is there one somebody out there recommends.(the only one I've seen is thru JC Whitney catalog) Any help is greatly appreciated!!!! :D

Ok not to be an @$$ but you could do a search, this topic has been discussed SOOO many times. But i'm in a good mood so i'll give you some info ;)

Well i got my cut-out from summitracing.com. Cost me like $30-35 shipped or something like that. Ran me $40 to install, so somewhere round $70-75 total.

There are some pro's and con's about it.

PRO:
LOUD, sounds pretty damn good
Picked up HP at higher RPM band
In nutral when you rev it, sounds bad @$$, it back fires and sounds like the car has balls.

CON:
LOUD
Everything in the car vibrates and shakes.
Kills low end power.
When you flooring it, anything over 4500 rpm's sounds like garbage (below it sounds mean)

I did a little testing last week and put the cap on the cut out. Car sounded like i had a stock exhaust on it (i have a flowmaster exhaust on my car) I HATED IT! I nailed it a few times around corners, from a dead stop, and nothing. I also have a shift kit and it didnt even bark from the 1-2 shift.

I took it off, and man what a difference, every corner i fishtailed, every 1-2 shift barked HARD! and off the line i squealed a bit.

I have mine installed on the y-pipe right before the rear axle, really easy to get under the car and put cap on/off (trust me when you put the cut-out on, your not going to be capping it much ,it sounds pretty good)

Some people say they lost HP w/ it uncapped, i cant tell you for a fact because i dont have dyno numbers or track times, but it seams like it screams in the higher rpm's. And when my car shifts 1-2 it really does kick you back and squeal the tires (due to the shift kit, but also the cut-out changing my power band)

Do a search on summitracing and you'll find it. Its a simple weld job, and if your capping/uncapping the cutout, its on 3 fly bolts, not really that bad to take on/off.

I think if you put it before the cat, you might be losing a bit more power, not sure, again no numbers to prove it.

And what you friend has in place of the cat is called an "off road pipe". You just unbolt stock cat, drop in a straight pipe in that spot, bolt it up, and your ready to go w/out a cat. Not sure how it would preform on your car, not sure what mods you have or are intending to get. But unless your spraying, stay away from straight pipe and get a cutout.

Also you can get an Electric cutout opener, so w/ a flip of the button, you can open/close the cutout w/out getting under neith the car. Its about $100-150 depending who manufactures it and how high quality it is.

Well good luck, and anymore questions, either do a search for "Key Words" or just post.

just get it and try it out for yourself. its only like $35 from thunder racing. if you dont like it or it loses performance just keep it capped up.

this is where im gettin mine www.quicktimeperformance.com cost more but well worth it. cops around my area always pull over loud cars so this way you can tone it down when you want and a cop wouldnt even know. the way cops get ppl around here is they'll tell you to put it in N then step on gas if its to loud you get a $75 ticket.

LOL, ok if you have a shop that does allot of custom exhaust work they will have them in stock. The place where I live (Sacramento, muffler tech) had a **** load of them allbrands in stock. it cost me 60 bucks installed out the door, dont hastle with ordering if you dont have to. Just ask muffler shops in your area if they have them in stock.
