do any of you guyz use resonators in your setups to mellow the sound out a little bit?

I'm probably gonna get a borla muffler, but I want it kinda low-key but not quite, and I want it to sound more like a BMW with an exhaust.

    I have a 3.4

I just installed a Flowmaster catback with a high flow cat and find it a bit sharp in tone. However I have no miles on it yet and am hoping it will mellow out over the weekend as I am heading out of town. If I am still unhappy my pipe guy says he can squeeze a resy in for me.

I'm buying some soon for my setup. I'll probably have them by October. I'll post the before & after sound clips when I'm done installing them.

i just installed my exhaust kit yesterday
        http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/pr...oducts_id=3810

it has a better idle but when i ride in it it sounds a little like a I6 with exhaust, not as deep as i had hoped.

u can try running no muffler and just hang your tips. after removing my old exhaust i started it and reved it,....freakin loud. idle sounded deeper but the rev was quick and higher like a racing exhaust. to answer your question yes the resonator should mellow it a bit

I'm using one and I think it makes it sound a whole lot better got rid of my high RPM raspyness.. Give it a shot there not very expensive.. I can almost guarentee you'll be satisfied if your really annoyed with the Raspy Rice noise.. And if you do let me know how you like it.

I put a Flowmaster American Thunder with the 80 series muffler on my '95 3.4 and it was very irritatingly loud and sharp - barked like a chihuahua! I had a hi-flow cat in front.

It's so tight under the car that I had to remove the cat and installed a 24" x 4 1/2" Red Devil no baffle resonator. We don't have smog testing here - only in Vancouver - so I am OK.

Sounds awesome now - growls then snarls when you kick it!

If I was doing Flowmaster again, I would definitely order the 40 or 50 series muffler - the 80 just doesn't cut it on a V6.

By the way - I phoned Flowmaster and they knew exactly what I was complaining about. They immediately recommended I buy one of their stainless Hushmaster mufflers and install it as a resonator. That of course was $228.00 extra - the Red Devil was $48.00 plus $40.00 to re & re.

That is why I took Summit's advice and went with the round Dynomax Ultraflow as an I-pipe addition to the catback. 'Bout $70 and will still let me breathe (as much as the stock cat allows anyway). Flowmaster does not allow substitutions on their catbacks, you want it different - you buy both mufflers
