  • Something rattling my car

When i go downhill or in low rpms, something rattles on my exaust somewhere. Also, my exaust crackles loud when im going downhill or in neutral. Any ideas what these are?

whats up bro, it could be your Cat going out the door. I have never heard one in bad shape before but from what I gather its what you are hearing. Damn its late. This site is like a drug. I'm reminded of a song...

For the rattling... put your car up on ramps of something so you can get underneath, and see if you can find it by shaking the pipes with your hands. If you can't get it with that, start up the car and try and pinpoint the sound. A week ago my exhaust was rattling pretty bad, and I figured out it was the clamp connecting the s- and i-pipes. I just tightened it a bit and it's all good. Other possibilities are your cat like he said, or also the headshield on your cat coming loose.

As for the crackling... I'm not sure about that one... sorry

bang on some of the pipes and muffler under the car...i had the same problem when i had my flowmasters a couple years ago. part of the metal that was welded and fallen off inside the pipes and couldn't make it out. took it to the shop that did it and he cut where he had welded before, pulled out the piece of metal and welded it back (better than before, of course). after that, had no problem. hope that helps.

My '97 has some kind of heat shield welded to the I-pipe. The weld has broken, and now this thing makes all kinds of rattling noise.
