• Custom 3" exhaust price

This is my first post in this forum so if I say/do anythign stupid, please be sure to hit me on the head hard enough that I don't do it again. With that said...

I have 2000 M5 Camaro and want to upgrade from the stock 2.25" to a full 3" conversion. I emailed a local exhaust shop that has their own mandrel bender and asked about a price. I asked him how much it would cost to get a 3" highflow cat and 3" custom mandrel bent piping, a magnaflow muffler and a 18" bullet muffler and of course some nice tips.

He said that it would cost around $700 to $750 installed. I live near Tampa and the shop is called "Race Related". They have done really good work on my friends SRT-4 so I know they will do a quality job. But is that price a little high or about were it should be?

    Thanks

no that sounds good. i got my headers, high flow, cat back, and s-pipe for about 600. then its going to be 550 for install on that and my msd ignition at the stealership. so i say your getting a good deal. go for it.
    The confusion surrounds me
change is imminent
if I were they
we could be great

to buy my headers, 3" high flow cat, 3" cutout, 3" exhaust(thank you summit), flow 80, dual/dual tips, and to have everything hung properly after i did the installs, i paid around on the high side of 750 for a full 3" exhaust system. :D

so yes, to me, thats too much cause i got headers too

well...here is a curve ball... how many miles are on your car? an exhaust shop can not touch the cat if it has less than 7 years or 70,000miles. (unless it is bad...and in that case the cat is under federal emissioms warranty.)

So...maybe they will do the work for you or maybe you will get there and they will tell you differently.

however...you already want a magnaflow muffler. I would look again at the magnaflow LT1 94-97 v8 3" catback system. add a 3x3 cat (included for free in some cases) and you can get a bullet from summitracing.com for about 30bucks shipped. it is not hard to install but doing the work yourself may be the only option if you only have 'reputable' shops in your area. ;)

you can get everything welded up later for minimal price. Shops (not including the questionable CAT) can install catback kits in very short time for about 100bucks or so.

Legally, that was a federal offense. That doesn't mean you can't find a shop that will do it, though. ;)

Thanks for all the advice. I think I'll keep shopping around before I make a final decision.

To answer the question about changing the Cat, my car has just turned over 85,000 miles.

a 16oz hammer will F-up a cat real quick if you really want it changed.... you know, legally.

based on what you want, a LT1 Magnaflow cat-back plus $100 in install fee will still save you a couple hundred bucks.... and still get you exactly what you outlined as your wants.

I personally have the pacesetter/ carsound cat/ 3" magnaflow cat-back setup and I like it. Probably would add the bullet to the I-pipe if I had to do it again.
