• Pacesetters on!

I just installed my headers about a week ago and figured if anyone had any questions about the install or sound or whatever....I could probably answer them.

1. How do they affect you sound?
2. Any performance difference?
3. How does it sound over the entire RPM band?
4. How was the install?
thats all I can think of at the moment.
Thanks

what gaskets did you use? do you use any gaskets between headers and y-pipe? or is it just metal to metal at the ball and socket joint? what did you use for cat, s-pipe? is your borla 2 1/2 or 3"?

At idle the sound is a lot deeper...driving around normally has a really nice tone as well...if you floor it it will scream. It's not like a ricer scream or a raspy scream though. My gf said "It sounds like I'm in a race car" if that gives you any idea. Over all I cant tell you how pleased I am with how it sounds. Also I have the 3inch borla with the largest plate...not wide open.
I used the stock gaskets...I have been checking them every 4 or 5 days and so far everything seems fine with them...no leaks or anything...as for the header-y-pipe connection it supplies you with screws and nuts but they can't tighten enough to prevent leaks, their isnt enough thread...I used an extra nut that was larger on both sides (on only 1 screw on both sides) and slid that on and then used the nut they supplied me with to tighten it up as much as i wanted. After I did that I have no leaks.
For the y-cat connection I used a 3inch wide bandclamp which has also proved to not leak if you get it tight enough.
As for power it is definatley there where it wasnt before. You feel it all over, but where I most notice it is when I get to 40. It pulls really hard now.
The install overall was not hard as much as it was frustrating at times. It took me and my dad about 10 hours to do because of various problems. Their are issues with some of the stock wires for the sparkplugs. I had to get one new wire that had two 90degree angles to be able to plug one of them in. THe stock wire wouldnt fit. The O2 sensors were a pain in the *** to get clipped back on. Over-all though it was well worth putting these on. I'd suggest anyone get them and anyone can do it themselves...it just takes time.

Actually it doesn't We dont' know your GF, or what she thinks a race car sounds like ;)

Just teasing... good writeup. What wires did you end up buying?

Get thyself to a dyno mr. !

Heh well it was the best way I could explain it...sorry :D
With my intake and borla alone it got a little raspy above 4k...now it stays real smooth and sounds mean as hell. I had my friend drive my car with me following behind and he floored it and I think I was a little turned on....It sounds good though...no one would complain about it.
And yes...I want to get to a dyno as soon as possible...anyone know where one is around missouri city/sugarland/houston? I've never been to one so I dont know.

And for the wire (I only needed one new one to reach) I just went to autozone and picked up one that looked like it would be long enough to go around the headers and had a 90degree angle on both sides instead of one 90 and one straight.

Did you have any problems hooking up the emissions EGR tube? I heard that was a problem with these headers.

No that was a piece of cake...dont know who told you it was a problem...but its the least of your worries I assure you. Just be careful with it. I guess if your an idiot then it might be hard...but I like to have a little more faith in people.

I think the EGR is a hit or miss. My EGR tube even when fully removed from the EGR system was not in any way going to fit into the headers. The diameter of the tube on the headers was far too small for the EGR hookup.

Did you do these yourself or did you have help. I was thinking of tackling this job this weekend but Im not sure if it would be wise to do it alone.
Thanks,
