A cat is a cat. WTF $375 for a new cat, ok for a slow bald fat guy maybe 30min. worth of work. You don't have to be superman to get those bolts off. All you need is a 1/2 in. inpact gun and you have them off in 4 seconds. But i guess the shop you went too doesn't have air tools...

I paid 400 with shipping for a magnaflow 3" in/out cat and 2.5" cat-back. I think the install was around $80. The shop made a custom 3" out pipe with a ball/flange at the end to accept the 2.5" flange on the catback, so it kinda looks like this ==o=.
You can get carsound cats on ebay for like $60 I beleive, and with the custom flange peice, install would proly be around $45.
After reading the second page, I think it took like 45 min. for the shop to put on the cat, put on the catback, and then make the custom ball/flang peice to fill the space between the cat and catback.
I took the origional cat and catback off with the car on 12" ramps on my back with a small hacksaw. Took about 10 min for the catback, and 10 min for the cat since I had to remove the underbody heatsheild for saw clearance. I then drove to the shop with an open y-pipe for the install.
Originally posted by schenk85: camaroincal, where in the bay area do you live? i have the same problem with my cat, and im looking into fixing it asap. what kinda cat did you use?
I live close to Vallejo in a town called Cordelia right off I-80. I have no idea honestly what kinda cat it is. I took it in just to get the rattle I had diagnosed and I didn't know it was a bad cat cus my car was running decently. But I feel the difference now, I was just used to driving it a little underpowered. But anyway, when he called me after the diagnostic and told me I need a new cat I just said," um..ok" lol...I didn't really ask what kinda cat they had. I don't think we have a lot of choices though here in Cali cus when I was talking to the shop owner he said there's basically only 1 kinda cat they can replace.
this is what happens when you have a bunch of children brought together to argue about who's dick is bigger than the others and no moderators to stop it
