Ok, i drive a 01 'maro. I removed the intake silencer and substituted it with a 3 inch PVC pipe (instedad of buying the whisper lid). Anyways i noticed right away that the car sounds a lot better, the exhaust sounds even more awasome now(dynomax). But anyways i know that there is supposed to be more air noise and whisling, but when i get oround like 3700 RPM, it gets reall loud and annoying for like a sec (louder air noise is what i mean), and than normal again. What could this be???
Oh, yeah what is the power or hp difference in between what i did and the whisper???
Thanx

There is something wrong if it makes a lot of noise. I did the same thing and I could not notice any difference in sound. I dont know what the horse power difference is, but I took my car to the track and I ran the same time, but 1 mph faster. It might have been just my driving or different temperature.

i'd actually have to hear it to tell if there is a difference from normal. as far as gains compared to whisper, the pipe is only half of it. the whisper lid also has a smooth interior on the air box lid, which helps flow. you can get a similar effect by grinding the fins off of you stock lid with a dremel.
