Well i will be getting my muffler replaced as soon as i break in the car. Now my question is which exhaust should i go with for my car. At this point in the game i am leaning strongly towards dynomax because of price, sound quailty, and lifetime warrenty. But i also keep hearing people swareing up and down about how good flowmaster is and how good it sounds. I have heard the sounds clips of flowmaster and dynomax and was more impressed with the dynomax than the flowmaster. It seemed like the flowmaster clips i listend to have a raspy unimpressive sound to them. I had a flowmaster on my old truck and i got rid of it because it sounded tinty and it seemed like it was blocking air flow espally when it was floored. So i went with dynomax and it just made the truck sound really better than it did before. One of the things i hate is that 4cly sounding crap in the upper Rs and from what i hear dynomax takes care of it. I just don't want to go out and spend my money and end up spending more to get the sound i want. I am looking for a nice, deep, clear, throaty sound that i know the V6 is capable of making. Unless anybody can tell me different i think dynomax is the muffler i am gonna go with. It does not have to be the loudest just as long as it is louder than stock. Thats all i am looking for. Sorry for the long story. ;)

Dynomax or Flowmaster: which is better?

I did a lot of research, listened to everything I could in person. I went with the Ravin. I would put the ravin sound up against anything out there. I liked the Dynomax but it didn't have the deep tone that the ravin has. Don't trust soundclips, they don't always sound the same in person. There is another option that actually sounds good on V6 cars and that is the SS take off's. Not raspy and they flow decent. The tips do have a lot to do with the final sound as well. Mine are 3-1/2x18" slash cut and sound great. The only member here who has heard my exhaust is Cale. He has the SS take off with headers and it sounds sweet.
I didn't like flows either, nice down low but raspy and whiney above 2500 rpm's.

I loved my old flowmaster, that was on the stock 2.25" pipe to. On my 2002, I am going to be installing a complete 3" american thunder catback with a new cat (Im getting the 17143 kit which includes the S-Pipe). I hope it sounds even better .2002 5-spd NBM Camaro

Go with dynomax, mine sounds deep all throught the RPM band and its on a 3.4, so on a 3.8 it should sound even better. I also have a 3" I pipe, that helped some I think. Like Jack said the tips also will make it sound deeper. Go with some that are at least 3" diameter.\'95 Med. First, exhausts sound deeper and better on 3.4L's then 3.8L's.
I've heard two Dynomax's on V6's up in real life. One sounded ricey, and the other sounded bad *** like a freakin drag racer (had that distinct chug chug or whatever sound of a drag car) ... but that guy was also running without a cat, and he had a new cam... so you wouldn't get that sound.
Flowmasters sound way better IMHO. And if you don't mind loud exhaust, hell, get a cutout. My friends think my cutout puts out the best sounding exhaust from a V6 they've ever heard.Kyle M<br />--------------<br /><a href=\"http://grdws6.netfirms.com\" target=\"_blank\">2002 Trans Am WS6</a> (silver, A4) - lid, cutout, stage 3 shift kit, 12 bolt, vig 3200, tranny cooler, bmr sfc/stb, torq thrust ii. <b>12.688 @ 106.47mph -=- 1.756 60\'</b>

when buying a muffler we want a loud sounding muffler...YES, but we also want it to sound good when it's loud. We don't want a loud muffler that sounds like $hit.
After owning Dynomax and hearing Camaro's (3.8s) with Flowmaster's here's my unbiased opinion on both.
Flowmasters
+ Bad *** Idle
+ Nice and Loud
- Sounds like *** above 3,000RPM
- Will give you a head-ache
- Restrictive
Dynomax
+ Doesn't sound like a V8 above 3K but it definately isn't rice. It howls (probably due to my intake) and it has a nice grunt to it
+ Not Restrictive at all
+ Loud when you get on it but quiet for highway crusing (it's similar to a 3 chamber flowmaster)
- Idle sucks donkey balls. It sounds nice but it's very quiet.
- Loud when you get on it, but not as loud...but still sounds very nice. Maybe this one should be a plus not a minus...but whatever

Alot has to do with the size of the exaust. 3 inch all the way back and 3 1/2 inch tips sounds great. Add headers and a Highflow cat and the exaust will sound just like a V8...Jeff ..

I have to disagree with the quotes above that the Flowmaster is more restrictive than the Dynomax.
I have the Flow 80 and a former member of our local car club had dynomax on his firebird. At the track one night we were parked next to each other, both vehicles at idle. I went to the exhaust tips (both) on my system (Flow..) and even at idle could feel considerable exhaust flow. Did the same to the dynomax system and could barely feel any exhaust flow at all at either tip.
Common sense seems to say that if it was this way at idle it would be worse at higher rpm's, but I could be wrong ...
In any case, after the Flowmaster breaks in, it sounds awesome, even up to 3K ... :Dassociate of <b><i>VENOM VI</i></b><br /><br />2000 WS6 Pewter TransAm M6<br /><b>NOT</b> stock<br /><b>330/346 rwhp/rwtq </b><br />(pre-headers)<br /><br />1998 3.8L V6 Camaro M5 (the Silver Bullet) w/lot\'s of bolt-on\'s<br />-Ryan\'s car now-<br />60\': <b><i>2.165</i></b><br />1/8 run: <b><i>9.494 @ 72.57 mph<br />209rwhp/253rwtq</i></b>

The exhaust only gets ricey when revved in park, under load the exhaust sounds gorgeous to redline... I heard mine on the dyno, I loved every minute.2002 5-spd NBM Camaro
