  • Installed EGR Block off but..

Ok so i installed the EGR block off plate on the header for now, and drove it around to see if my tick was gone, but there was a new tick now, and it sounded like a whispering tick. I dunno if thats from the egr plate or if its making that sound cuz i left EGR open and its now just sucking in fresh air. Anyone know if it makes that sound cuz of that? I also took the plate off and then put some Copper RTV in between the plate and header and then put some around the cracks so theres no way it could still be leaking, and drove it around and still same exact sound so Im almost positive that new tick isnt coming from the block off plate. heres a pic of it.

Now if u look at it, looks kinda impossible to be leaking from there.

Check all around it for a leak. The hot exhaust gasses can easily blow out the silicone. If it's still sealed, check your header gaskets and y-pipe connections.
Other than that, I'm all out of idea's.

Try unhooking the electrical connector from the EGR valve...that'll tell you if the ticking is coming from there. You'll get an SES, but it'll go away after you hook it back up.

Gotchya. I don't have headers, so I'm really not experienced with those kinda probs. Just throwing idea's around. ;)

ok well did what matt said to do, still same leak with egr off, so im guessing the new leak is coming from the plate. so guess gonna just put the egr back into the header and forget bout the plates.. and well ill be back at square 1

well think of this, if you did block it off, it might reveal a leak you already had somewhere else but now it sticks out cause its alone and has more pressure on it

yea well i dunno, i took off the plate put EGR back in, and now im where i started from the beginning, only way i can think of sealing that is to find a way to either clamp the top of the EGR and flange together, or drill a small hole there to get a bolt in the top.
