  • Just a cat?

Last year I added a Borla Muffler and tips, and they added quite a bit of power. As I read through this, I see a cat can help too. I also planned on a set of pacesetters when I pull the motor.

Can I just add a perfomance cat, or does all the piping have to change?

    TIA.

    Jason

Just have a shop install a high flow cat, they just weld it in where ur old one is right now, will help A LOT. No other piping is changed or required, if Im correct ur borla is 3", right? if so just get a High-flow 3" in/out cat.

it sounds like you may have only done the rear section..i have the full borla cat back..it is 3"..i also just had them hollow and sleeve my cat..if you did the full cat back it will be 3" reduced to 2.5" at the cat..so just get a 3" cat and have your whole system be 3"..if you just did the rear section i believe it will just be a 2.5" cat..at most you'll just need reducers..which any exhaust shop should have..so you should be all set with just getting the cat

I just did the muffler back to the tips. The exhaust manifolad and the cat are stock. I will have to check to see if it is 2.5" or 3" when I get home. Sounds like it will be 3".

What's better, a hollowed out cat or a high flow? Will shops hollow out the cat?

Thanks for the tips. As soon as the salt is gone from the roads, I will have the cat done.

due to emissions testing now..most shops will not hollow the cat..you'd really have to find a good race shop for custom work..i also run the muffler open with the hollow cat and it is REALLY REALLY loud..it just so happens that my hollow cat has never set a code..AND passes inspection..but this is not usually the case..i wouldnt think of hollowing the cat unless you are gonna be doing some serious track racing with a power adder..otherwise id just go high flow..you'll get similar results, nice sound, and shouldnt have a problem with emissions and all that
