• SES Light

Exhaust Setup.
3"in/out Carsound muffler then 3" piping all the way to flowmaster 80. I'm getting a stupid SES light.

I've read suggestions on using O2 sims and getting new O2 sensors, but I'm not sure about the configuration. How many of each should I buy and how should i position them?

carsound cat...not muffler

you dont need o2 sensors, just one sim after the cat if thats what the code is for. dont tell me you posted without checking the code.

sorry. I meant carsound cat. I had the code checked and it was something about the converter so I went from a catco to a carsound. I reseted the PCM and the light went back on.

BTW, i got a 99 3.8l

Yeah, the high-flow cat will often not work as efficiently as your stock cat. So the back O2 sensor sets a code. You'll need an O2 simulator or tuning to actually set this code to ready in your computer.

So I O2 sim post cat? can I just tell any exhaust shop to do this? I heard that 00+ cars have problems with this. So this should fix my 99?

my ses light stays on also. it is because of the cat. there are chips that you can get. ask dominic, but there is no reason to be worryed about anything. just as long as the lights not blinking. and yes i'm almost certain that it's mainly 00 and up

it is mainly 00+ but obviously your having the same problem ;)

i see that you have a custom exhaust system so i doubt you put an o2 bung after the cat. if you didnt, you can just buy the sim online, the only place i know to get it, and install it yourself. not hard. if you did put a bung in there, get something to plug it

NCstate98, high flow cats will never work as efficiently as a stocker

so I rented a scanner and got these 5 codes

P0300
P0420
P0480
P1870
P1870

It showed the last one twice. Could any of these be related? Like one code is triggering the other ones?

P0300 - Engine Misfire

P0420 - Cat Efficiency...Fix this with the O2 simulator.

P0480 - Cooling Fan Relay 1 Control Circuit. Problem with the circuit controlling your cooling fan.

P1870 - Transmission Component Slipping. Pretty common, but pretty bad. Search for P1870 in the Drivetrain section.

I do have a manual fan switch so that might be causing the P0480 right? How would I get passed that code?

In my transmission I have a 3300 vigilante converter and a transgo stage 3 shift kit. could those effect it?

Yup, your fan switch is causing that. Nothing you can do about it.

So basically if you have a manual fan switch you'll always have the SES light on?? or do you get lucky sometimes?
