Only problem with that is that the filter will need to be cleaned a lot more often but you will be getting colder air.2001 Arctic White Firebird With Black Drop Top

3:42 Gears
Zexel LSD
BMR upper A-Arms
Trans Am exhaust with 3\" I-pipe and cutout
Modified intake
Mecham Hood
Trans Go shift kit
Making rear control arms and panhard

so the filter is like less then a foot off the ground?
Your climate might be different but in FL, you are asking your motor to suck up a healthy puddle of water and hydrolock the motor.-Eric
2000 NBM V6 Camaro 5-speed T-top converted
14.467@95.45mph $0 in mods
The member formerly known as MustangEater8251

so youre saying you put a put some filter material around the end of the tube, and then shoved a funnel on over it? i hope you secured that paper really well, or youre going to be sucking it right up.
sounds also like you dont have a lot of surface area on the filtering area. youre probably getting less air than stock if this is the case.

Ok, let me just put my 2 cents in about ram air. Ram air does not exist. Just do a good cold air and you will be good. ram air is good marketing, You will never get enough positive pressure to give you gains over a standard cold air intake.2001 Arctic White Firebird With Black Drop Top

3:42 Gears
Zexel LSD
BMR upper A-Arms
Trans Am exhaust with 3\" I-pipe and cutout
Modified intake
Mecham Hood
Trans Go shift kit
Making rear control arms and panhard

yeah unless youre going 130+mph all the time, a ram air setup isnt worth the cash over a good CAI.

lets clarify the differece between RAMAIR & COLDAIR.
cause i've seen many different opinions/products2k2 camaro, K&N, SLP whisper lid, Konis, AEM, HP Tuners, Angel eyes/Halos, CF SS ram air hood, 4.10s, Zexel Torsen, UMI SFCs, CrossFire, BFGs, Gatorback, Catco, Flows, and TLC! DONT feed the Trolls!

ram air needs to be a pretty straight shot into the throttle body as the bends will slow it down. 3 or 4 bends in the nitake tube will almost negate the effect, even at high speeds i would think. its pretty much just as good as cai at any low speed.

The truth about Ram Air:
Have you ever stuck you hand out of the window at highway speed and felt the force of the wind against your hand? What you're feeling is called stagnation pressure, a phnomenon caused my the increase in local air pressure when moving air is brought to a stop. Mathmatically, this is expessed as:
Ps = Po + 1/2 * (air density) * (Velocity)^2
At 60 mph in a standard atmosphere, this amounts to a preassure increase of 0.07 psi. This goes to 0.1 psi at 75 mph and to 0.17 psi at 100 mph.
True, this doesn't sound like much (and it won't exactly take the place of a powerdyne any time soon), but it is "free" and does help a little to overcome intake restrictions by 'ramming' air down the engine's throut.
That all said, would I spend a lot of time, money, or effort to rig up the perfect "ram air" intake? Naaaaaaa. :D1997 Camaro, Y87 Perf. for what its worth...
before I had free ram air and ran no filter, if cardrove fine...
after free ram air and when I ran no air filter... if I just cruised down teh road, not speeding up ar slowing down. The car will surge and jerk, my best thought is maybe air being blown over the MAF while the throttle is constant.
just my $0.02...-Eric
2000 NBM V6 Camaro 5-speed T-top converted
14.467@95.45mph $0 in mods
The member formerly known as MustangEater8251
