• installed borla catback today

just installed it on my 02 firebird
its a ***** cutting off the old exhaust, especially by hand

if you have a borla cat-back on your 98+ please tell me what plate you use..

I've used them all except the closed plate, and they sound better as they get smaller.. the biggest one sounds really good when started, but like **** when you get on it, especially in first

for those who have borla catbacks, how does the closed plate sound?

I have a custom done borla it is basically the same thing as the catback only done with 2 1/2 inch pipe. The closed plate sounds really good. Gives it a nice rumble.

i have the borla on my 99. i run with the full block off plate. that gives me the best performance of course i have CIA headers, 3" cat and 3" s-pipe. with that exhaust work leaving it open is too much.
i was swimming in the carribean. animals were hiding behind the rocks except for the little fish, but they told me the squid\'s trying to talk to me. oink, oink. where is my mind?

I have the closed plate too on my borla and it seems to make it sound the best lol. Ppl say that it sounds like a v8 when i am going down the street but when i get on it they can tell its a v6. Only when your sitting still throwing revs above 3 grand makes it sound like rice.

I have this on my '98. I like the closed one the best, even though that essentially makes it a single exhaust... I like the fully open one next, it has the best idle sound. The middle ones were actually noisier/more ricey I thought.

I also have the cia headers, 3" cat, 3" all the way back...

I know what you mean about cutting off the old exhaust, it was a pain. Especially when I realized I was going to have to cut it a second time, or jack the car way up... I jacked the car way up.

I have mine wide open and I think it sounds good! At high RPMS (4K+) its not the greatest but I just ordered CIA headers and a 3" CATCO so thats probably going to change. If you have a good intake setup it should also help the sound. All I need is the SLP CAI and I'm set. Good luck. You've already made the first right step by bying one of the best exhaust systems. ;)

we had to cut it twice too, but the second time all of our blades for the electric saw were broke, so we started hand cutting it, but it didnt work so we put a 25 pound plate from my bench press on top of the jack, and jacked it up a little higher and forced it out.. it was pretty dangerous

I haven't tried the closed plate yet, I'm gonna try it later today when my exhaust is cooled off

Ha ha how long did it take you? I took my old exhaust off in one piece without cutting anything in about 2 hours.

I too went to the closed plate. I likes the smallest plate a lot until 3500 RPM. Since I have to accelerate for highway driving and live with neighbors ... I put the closed plate on.
