would the volant air intake for a 98-99 5.7 liter fit on my 3.8. I have a 98 firebird. What are the negatives to having this? Will I be able to put a ram air kit on?

I won't fit correctly b/c the v6's intake is "off center" compared to the ls1. The volant looks pretty, but doesn't make really any more hp than a whisper lid.Keith - 99 'maro - White M5 - bumpstick and boltons - 13.65 @ 101 N/A

Just a little tidbit about the intake being "off-center"... You're exactly right, and that was the delima with me trying to install my Ram Airbox. It was clearly made for a V8, because the hole in the airbox for the hose was about 4 inches offset with the opening to the MAF, and there wasn't enough distance to bend it. I had to get a new hose and work that thing to death before it would fit. There's somewhat of a kink in it, but it still flows pretty good... but anyway, yeah, our intakes are a bit offcenter...
EDIT: Speaking of which, does anyone know if that little bit of kink will really matter in terms of airflow...? I mean the air comes straight from the filter into the intake, so would it make a difference if one spot was about maybe an inch more narrow than the rest? The entire hose is the same size as the opening at the intake, so I'm thinking may a little spot like that won't matter that much, but I'd like anyone's take... I could maybe cut the hose and make there be less slack, so maybe it wouldn't have that part where it has to crunch up to make that angle... let me know, if anyone has any ideas.

LMPerformance sells the Volant Intake, at $280 I'd say it's rather pricey for an intake. I'd kinda think the best way to maximize the performance of this would be if you had an Ultra-Z or Ram Air hood; Otherwise I'd almost think it'd hurt you because it'd be sucking hot air only from under the hood, not the cool air coming in from in front of the radiator.
Firebird1055 - I really doubt that the tiny kink is hurting your performance much. Dont we need like 500mph or something to really create a ram-air anyways? The kink should still be flowing plenty for the engine. However, when I had my old dodge shadow I used to read performance sites for it (yeah, I know it's an oxymoron - shadow and performance, but they existed) and there was this one guy who did a college research project on his shadow. He made a ram-air system and actually calculated flow numbers with for different tubing and angles to see which flowed best. His write-up is here and I'd think the tubing flow numbers would be universal. Could be an interesting read, but I really doubt the guys numbers are restrictive as he says they are. btw, his other car was a Trans Am.AIM: Alientr8tr
1998 Camaro 3.8L
Flowmaster 80-series, !FRA, Eibach Springs, KYB AGX, SLP sway bars, 3.42/LSD, Wings West kit, Z06 Motorsports, Silverstone Metallic paint
Shift 5 - My Band
