  • IAT Sensor on 97s

    I was planing on makeing a ghetto air intake for my car and wanted to get rid of the ****ty silencer or whatever it is on my 97 but the IAT sensor is pluging into it, Should i just put a hole in some pvc pipe or something and plug in it there. would that work? i do plan on getting a slp CAI kit in a couple months but want something for a short term solution.

    You can buy a little $.15 resistor from radio shack and bypass the IAT connection. I forget what the resistor specs are though...
    I think I have a few of them in my garage, but I'm not sure if I threw them out or not. If no-one here gives you the specs, I'll look for it tomorrow and post it if/when I find them.

      Does this really work? does it set offany ses codes? Is there a se of directions on here how to do it? any side affects at all from bypassing the iat sensor? does this work for all years?
      Longtubes, true duals, ram air, caspers tps tec, ls1 26lb injectors, supersix powerpack, heads milled .020, comp cam .507 220/224 114 ls, forged internals and chromeoly pushrods, bored .030 over, tb spacer, tranny built with stiffer springs and kevlar bands, bigger servo, transgo stage 3 shift kit, edge 3600 stall, 1 pc aluminum ds, 3.73 superior gears, lsd rear ,custom pcm tuning, walbro 255 in tank,

        It's the same mod that A**Holes on ebay sell for $10-$20. The only thing is, theirs comes in a black box, normally says it's a computer chip, and claims about 10hp...NADA!
        It may give a very minor hp boost, but I never felt any difference. It says it tells the engine that the air coming in is cooler than what it actually is.
        I used the resistor on my car once when I accidentally crushed the IAT by forgetting I took it off, it fell on the floor, and I ran it over as I was backing out of my garage. The resistor worked without any SES lights for about three weeks until I replaced the IAT.

          found them. They are 4.7k-ohm resistors. Bought a package of 5 at Radio Shack for $1.25.
          The installation takes seconds, and I have 4 still here in the package that are unused. Send me your address, and I'll mail one to you. They are small and will easily fit into any envelope.

              hockyman, just curious why you didnt keep the resistor in and replaced it with a new iat sensor? do you have the directions?

                I remember seeing the resistor application somewhere on a website. I think it was http://www.projecttransam.com
                I'm not sure though, it's been awhile.
                I didn't want the resistor to stay there permanently, it was just a temporary thing until I got a new IAT. I didn't like the hole left in the intake bellow, and didn't want to tape it up.
                All you do with this resistor is bend it in a "U" shape, and plug both ends into the IAT plug.
