  • Why Block off the EGR?

    ...?

  • #2
Because it leaks with Pacesetter headers, and stopping the leak is damn near impossible.

If it's not leaking, leave it.

My v6 never had a egr leak just made my own gasket. EGR doesnt hurt performance. It keeps gas mileage up when cruising, and keeps combustion temps down.

Read the above....if it's not leaking and can't be fixed, leave it alone. ;)

Blocking it off lower intake air temperature but at the higher risk of detonation. But as 98camaro3.8 said, if its not leaking or already defective, leave it alone. Difference in MPG is only 1-3 mpg also so its not a large loss but its still there. Blocking if off also does a good job of turning on the ses light when decelerating from about 55 mph.

The exhaust fumes enter the engine and becuase of that less gas is used.
The egr acutlly helps your car out with gas mileage and less chance of detonation.

Don't take it off if you don't have to.

i tried all kinds of o-rings, gaskets, only way was the egr blockoff plate. but the plate doesnt stop it completly, i put some hightemp sealant around it to stop the leak completly. worth it

i have a 95 3.4l and my EGR basically blew off the car. i capped it off and the car "seemed" to run fine, now tho, i find that my car stutters horribly around 3000 rpm, i have tested icm, coil packs plugs and wires, no vacum leaks, also my gas mileage is horrible. i also get the afformentioned SES light, wich i hate, do you guys think replacing this would solve my headache? i am almost at my wits end!
