I am purchasing B&B Triflow exhaust and I would like to be able to "uncap" it every now and then so I am thinking of buying an electric cutout (probably the quicktime) and I was wondering where exactly this needs to be put in the exhaust. I assume its after the cat and before the muffler but I don't want to cut my $600 exhaust in half just to stick a cutout in. I mean is this what is normally done. Just cut a piece of pipe out and install this? I guess I need some more info on these and also wheather it would be worth it or not. I could always weld the cutout in there but if it were to ever develop a leak I would be SOL.

yeah you just pick a spot between the cat and the muffler hack saw your expensive exhaust system to make it fit... And afterwards you open the cutout and lose power cuz you have no backpressure but it will be loud so you will like it and never close the cutout unless cop comes around and that's a maybe.
imo cutouts aren't worth your time especially if youv'e got a good exhaust like yout b&b and all you want is performance.
I say this but i'm gonna put one on my car but i just want the noiseBlack 1996 Firebird
Newest Edition: Harlan Window Switch
Nitrous Express Kit,ASCD big block hood, SLP Loudmouth, CATCO hi-flow cat, CAI, -Maf, LSD, Flameball Shifter
Best N/A 1/4 in 15.216 @ 89.82 Best N2O 1/4 in 14.352 @ 97.46 <--w/clutch slippage
My homepage
AIM:MotorHead75068 YIM:MotorHead69

I'm like you though. I really like the noise but I don't want it all the time so its the obviuos way to go. It's gonna be tough to force myself to cut my new exhaust though. Hopefully it will be worth it though.1995 Pontiac Firebird 3.4L
TA front bumper, TA rear bumper, 98-02 Honeycomb tailights, GM Ram Air hood, 2k C5 18X9.5 Corvette rims all the way around, custom autoloc shaved handles, camaro two tone interior, silver badging, clear front marker lenses, RK sport headers, gutted cat, dynomax dual exhaust, Rear disc rearend, Richmond 3.73 gears, Zexel torsen LSD, Cross drilled front rotors, 2 12\" MTX thunder 8000s, Clarion 400W amp, MTX 5 1/4
Components, thunder 4262 amp, pioneer head unit, Hypertech power programmer (Yes it does exist)

So I should go RKSport headers back to a cutout , possibly a small piece of pipe to make up length for cat, and then back to B&B triflow. Wow that does sound tempting. I think that will be the way to go. Also I live in Ohio and as of now we have no emissions testing. my current cat is gutted but I do have a spare with guts inside in case they do go to emissions. Also I was planning on welding this cutout in to good a perfect seal. This would be a pain if Ihave to swap it out every year. Oh well we'll wait and see.1995 Pontiac Firebird 3.4L
TA front bumper, TA rear bumper, 98-02 Honeycomb tailights, GM Ram Air hood, 2k C5 18X9.5 Corvette rims all the way around, custom autoloc shaved handles, camaro two tone interior, silver badging, clear front marker lenses, RK sport headers, gutted cat, dynomax dual exhaust, Rear disc rearend, Richmond 3.73 gears, Zexel torsen LSD, Cross drilled front rotors, 2 12\" MTX thunder 8000s, Clarion 400W amp, MTX 5 1/4
Components, thunder 4262 amp, pioneer head unit, Hypertech power programmer (Yes it does exist)

Don't worry about a cutout... you will not see any gains compared to a good catback.
It sounds like crap too, I know, I have one. Sounds ricey and just rattles the whole car. Definitely not something I would have off all the time.
I have a stock exhaust though, it does help if you put on on a stock exhaust, but its really not worth cutting up that catback for.

don't get it...you'll like the sound at first but over time it will begin to annoy the hell outta you. it will rattle the car, t tops, dash, everything. also gaskets will be a pain b/c they break all the time, and you have to keep buying new ones. when they start to break it sounds like a bumble bee. so you'll get sick of it and want to take it off which will cost more to have it taken off. its real bad w/out a cat too i had both. my advice....don't get one.
just get headers w/ the triflow it will be great. for a v6 at least.

The only reason I see getting a cut-out is to fix a really restrictive exhaust, but since you're gonna get a hi-performance exhaust, don't worry about getting it. I'd say go for it you were putting a cut-out on the stock exhaust since the stock s-pipe is the most restrictive part of our exhaust system.2001 Arctic White Firebird
More mods than I\'m allowed to list!

Where is there a gasket on an electric cutout. t looked to me like it was a butterfly like on a throttle body. Also I wouldn't have it open all the time because I live in a small town with lots of cops so I was thinking just open it when I'm out on the back roads cruisin. I really like the super loud sound. Not a big fan of ricey exhaust though but I will defiantely consider what everyoen said before buying one. Also labor costs aren't really a concern. I have a connection that owns a shop that works on my car for absolutely free. All the exhaust mentioned above will be put on for free.
