• Cutout question..

OK, so I got a cutout from my friend for $10. I am going to put it in front of my Catylitic Converter if it fits, I haven't looked yet for my car is a long ways from me. If it doesn't fit in front, I am just ridding my Cat and putting the cutout there. But anyways to the question..

Do I need to worry about melting my door Panel or discoloring my paint if i have my cutout aimed to the side pointing under my car? Or should I aim the cutout towards the driveshaft side of my car?

Having a 1995, the cat is basically right where the hump in the passenger seat is. So it is pretty close to the side of the car. That's why I had the question.

Thanks,
Scott

no it will not fit with the cat still there. you could always put it in the I pipe after the cat.

also, point it towards the side of the car. if its facing the driveshaft, you will not be able to open it easily.

^^^^ yes and also I would get rid of the cat if you can but you will need some O2 simulators like the ones in RK sport

Actually I won't because I have ODBI and no O2 sensor by the cat or after it. So I can just get rid of it and put the cutout there instead. But the hot exhaust gas won't damage the car body at all?

Thanks, Scott

i have heard right before the over axle portion of the pipe is the best place for performance, same for sound if you dont want it excessively loud. before the cat is probably going to be louder than youre expecting.

Well I wanted to put it before my cat because I have a stock cat, that is kinda crapping out on me and then if I leave my cat on, it would have still been legal to use on the streets. I don't care how loud it is, I am only going to use the cutout at the track to help performance a bit. I dont need a loud car driving around the neighborhood, so it is basically only for use on the track once or twice a year.

You think I should just chop the cat off and put the cutout there? No emissions where I live, fyi.

Did you put your cutout where the cat is or before it? and what type of problems did you have?

I just put a cutout on my car. My muffler shop told me that it really needed to go after the cat converter, because if you put it in front of it the check engine light would come on, and it wouldn't idle correctly. Anyway, he put mine halfway down the car, and it sounds awesome. Mine is a 3.8, though. At idle it sounds really deep and rumbly, and all the way up to 3000 rpm's it sounds really good. the only downfall... TONS of new rattles in the dash.

But hey, I sound good as I rattle ;)

I won't be the best at explaining..

but it goes on your exhaust pipe before the muffler, and you can either uncap it or cap it. With the cutout capped, your exhaust flows through your muffler. Un-capped, it exits the car without entering the muffler for a loud agressive sound.

Like I said, I got mine yesterday, and three people have asked me if it was a V8.

Here is a pic of a cutout: http://www.jegs.com/photos/38753030.jpg

I had one before the CAT...

-first it won't set off SES light
-Don't need an o2 simm
-Won't discolor anything
-more vibrations and heat in passenger seat(good for the ladies )
-Best sound you will get out of a 3.4L

Problems...

-It will make your car slower, you have to make a partial block off plate to bolt on to where you open the cap, to regain power.
-its unbearably loud inside your car, will drown out a stock stereo to th point you cannot tell its on.

Honestly I think you are better off putting it after the CAT or in the traditional spot just before the rear axle.

That seems to be the concensus, which I will be doing, however like I said before, my cat is crapping out on me, so should I just get rid of it and put the cutout there or do I need to move it back even farther?

Thanks,

IF your cat is crapping on you get rid of it if you can, but its illegal, and most shops won't do it for you maybe under the table or something.

If I were you, I'd take the CAT off, and gut it, assuming you don't have emissions.

If you do have emissions or some sort of inspection, get a CATCO cat.

1. No we don't have emmissions.
2. I've heard gutted cats on cars and it sounds horrible.
3. I know of a shop that will get rid of the cat.

So just swap the cat for the cutout? sounds like a good idea to me.

Thanks,

I have a four inch cutout welded right before the cat, I had a hi-flo bullet cat put in so there was enough room. With the cut out closed I dynoed at 178 rwhp and 200lbs torque. Open cutout I dynoed 187rwhp and 204lbs torque. Numbers should speak for themselves.
