  • Passing NYS Emissions w/ 2001

Last September, New York State politicians took the grand non-scientific method and set up a state-wide mandatory emissions test for all '96 and newer. Instead of putting a GC in the tailpipe, the state is using SES codes. If your car has ANY SES, your car fails. My problem: I aded a 3" Catco and 3" Borla. The last O2 sensor behind the cat always threw a code until I added an O2 sim. 99% of the time the O2 sim takes care of the SES, the 1% time just needs a reset. Rumor has it, O2 sims will not pass the test. Anybody experience similar problems and/or know how to pass NYS emissions? I am just trying to be somewhat knowledgable before I go take the test.

    Thanks

PA uses the exact same testing. Hope you take your car in on one of the days that its not throwing a code. Or, send your PCM to TSP to get the code disabled.

its not just clearing the code either..the code has to have been gone for 50 miles (otherwise they know you just cleared it for the test)..i have an open muffler and hollow cat and i passed inspection..my muffler and cat never set a code anyway..but i was having trouble with another code..i just used HP Tuners to clear that code out..and thats that..passed..if you're gonna have a modded car with these tests they're doing now..something like that is your best bet..id let you use my HP Tuners but i have a 98

yep, I just put my car back on the road after winter and went to get it inspected but it wouldn't pass because the battery went dead so my computer reset. so...I have to drive it around for a bit till it starts to read the sensors.
